there's this idea that if someone would just find the right words to describe things in public life, you eventually find ones that can't be twisted and not only do i think that's not true i think it's counterproductive. just constantly giving up useful concepts, always in retreat

in today's "I don't think I have enough time left on earth to understand geopolitics well enough to make an informed decision about this," the fresh bananas I'm obsessed with are a maybe-obvious (to everyone but me!) drug smuggling front

smartphones and the internet, man. they might have destroyed journalism, driven people insane by the tens of millions, fueled a rise in global fascism, and literally touched off genocides, but at least they seem to have caused a global collapse in relationship formation too

I walked out into the living room practicing a Scouse accent (??), not realizing I wasn’t alone, and then I drummed on the husky’s butt while singing Peanut Butter Jelly Time. She LOVED it. Puppies love that song

i'm not being facetious or anything here but I do genuinely believe people are starved, like emotionally emaciated or something, for a lack of attention, patience, and caring -- and men in their own way in general due to all the things -- so sure we create synthetic care and synthetic patience

when I took the quoted selfie 30 years ago there was no way to tell if the photo lined up right or try again until we got the film developed but that same year our school got the Apple QuickTake 100 ("first consumer digital camera") the teacher had me figure it out then explain it to other teachers

vaguely recreated photo from quoted post, led glowy keyboard and mouse in front of me, background is blueish decorative LED hex lights and a YouTube 100kb subscriber award under it. desktop computer has rgb lighting in it.

me when mmmbop came out (they just requested we listen to it again, I suspect this is going to be for a while)

child me in striped long sleeve shirt sitting at distinctly 90s gray beige computer with thick heavy screen atop old computer desktop and thick keyboard on tray with mouse. I was in 6th grade, hair buzzed short all over, glasses already.

When I was an auto journalist for Transport Evolved, I covered a GM Investor Day event. GM talked brazenly about monetizing driver data, such as selling windshield wiper data to The Weather Channel, or telling state police about roads where seatbelt use is low. And it only got bleaker from there.
