It's August...chicks have fledged...birds are heading south for the winter...and BirdCast is back. BirdCast provides forecast maps (see below) to let you know where there's active bird migration as well as live maps that track bird activity through the evening and night. More: birdcast.org. #birds

Bird migration forecasts show predicted nocturnal migration ~3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. Note: the models predict the migration intensity for birds in active flight; they are not predictions of the numbers of birds on the ground. Warmer colors on the maps correspond to more intense bird migration. The gray areas indicate where precipitation is expected. Purdue University, University of Illinois, and Cornell Lab of Ornithology currently produce these forecasts. National Science Foundation, Leon Levy Foundation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Edward W. Rose Postdoctoral Fellowship, Amon G. Carter Foundation, and the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission supported this research, with additional support from University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Oklahoma.

A month ago, I found 6 tiny kittens abandoned outside a convenience store. It was a hot day, and they had been left in a Tupperware tub. They were only about three weeks old and weighed around 200 grams each. They were so tiny and vulnerable. (1/3)

Lemme try to paint a picture to support this: in the before times, day temps used to be something like 25, 26, 30, 32, 24. Now they are 30, 32, 33, 34, 30. Huge difference! The forests are DRY, DRY, DRY. Doesn't matter how a fire starts, once it does, it just explodes. Trees literally explode 🌳💥😢

Remember, don’t waste any time arguing whether #ClimateChange “caused” the current #wildfires. Like EVERY consequence of the #ClimateCrisis, we KNOW that EACH WILDFIRE is made much more likely, and much worse, by the rapidly changing conditions from Climate Change. MORE LIKELY AND WORSE.

Reminder that Carney has cut funding for Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Indigenous Services. And he has rolled back climate protections, abandoned emissions targets, and is building more pipelines.

I think what happened is China had way more oil reserves and way more ability to reduce demand than anyone ever imagined. Basically now, if the strait ever opens, oil will fall to like 30 or 40 dollars because we've clearly passed peak demand and electrification has kicked in hard.
