This was a fascinating exercise: find out what went wrong with creativity in the games industry. The conclusion: there are too many cowards controlling too many critical levers, and until we figure out how to put people -taste, creativity, and craft- back at the top, we're going to be stuck.

Beast of Reincarnation is out of stock in certain stores. Not the first physical game in recent months that can't meet demand. We saw this for Capcom titles as well. Shows another reason why sales numbers don't tell the full picture when it comes to consumer preference.
The internet was my only haven growing up. I had unrestricted access and I saw things that were troubling, terrifying even, but I got to process those and become an adult who does not shelter in ignorance. If not for that access, i might still be in the cult and never know myself
aegisiondure @equalnotequals.com · 17h agothis isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again
People joke about british tanks having tea pots but then the official STUG manual swings in talking about how the official, correct way to prep a STUG for combat includes securing the designated bread bag in the correct place
Said this on stream today but these games are a direct result of MP & coop games streamlining & bloating their experiences to be basically glorified, grindy singleplayer experiences. The backlash is people being angry these indie games neither conform to trained budget or progression expectations

A few years ago, a friend was contracting with a studio EA owns, and mentioned a strange talk by an EA exec. Among other things, he reassured everyone about how acquisitions just happen sometimes, but they're not *all* bad. I figured he was priming them for a Disney buy out at the time, but eesh...
