I admit my relative privilege, wherein I did not become a parent until my 3rd year on the tenure track, and had an accelerated path to tenure due to being highly "productive" in the first 3 years. It came at a cost, though. I was not able to take parental leave, for example.

I sometimes think about the gender disparities that became apparent among academics amid the COVID Public Health Emergency. Men who weren't caregiving / had lower advising, teaching, and service loads were able to "focus" on research, while women were more likely to see slowed research productivity
