A new round is done! 16 teams are out, 16 remain, and with this smaller crowd the World Cup keeps drifting westward, now sitting in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Where will it head next? We'll find out next Tuesday. Until then, enjoy!

Oceanofisica is a space for ocean analysis, but we don't live with our backs turned to current events either. So we put together this video: it simulates the World Cup trophy's journey based on which countries remain in the competition, using their average position as the reference point.

2025–26 points to be an exceptionally wet hydrological year in Gran Canaria 🌧️ Accumulated rainfall at Gran Canaria airport since October 1st has reached 212.9 mm, nearly double the historical median and approaching the 95th percentile of the 1951–2024 record.
