Today is the birthday of cartoonist Jackie Ormes (Aug. 1, 1911-Dec. 26, 1985), the first Black woman to create a newspaper comic strip that was read nationally in the US. She created Torchy Brown in Dixie to Harlem, Torchy in Heartbeats & Patty-Jo ‘n’ Ginger. Patty Jo became a toy doll.

Hey folks! If you missed the Kickstarter but want to read Ghost Slappers, I’ve just added it into the Kindle marketplace and put it up on Kindle Unlimited! Help me out by leaving a review!
I want companies that have profited from contracts with ICE to go out of business. I want companies that have gone all in on AI to go out of business. I want companies that cause nationwide diarrhea outbreaks to go out of business. I want companies that give money to fascists to go out of business.
So much for SDCC’s anti-AI policies — I’ve been complaining to show management about this booth for three days.
You can't reason with someone who is determined to misunderstand you.
Matt Fraction and Mariko Tamaki hilariously thanked everyone on the Jimmy Olsen cover homage of the Superman boxing Muhammad Ali art. Love it.

I have a journalism award for a series of comics I co-authored on the inhumanity of electric monitoring. Note: I am not a journalist! The site for the award was taken down when DEI was essentially trashed everywhere, but the physical award is in my house!! It does exist!!
Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?

Saw something driving Elissa to work this morning. Had to stop and take a picture.

Yoshida moves to Japan? Looks like I struck before the iron was hot. (Spoilers for a Kid Eastwood issue that won’t be out till late next year)
Stephen Wacker will replace C.B. Cebulski as the new Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics. The company is also relocating its publishing operations from New York to L.A. after 90 years. (via www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...)
It's absolutely unreal that this man did publishing yellowface and is still employed at said publisher.
Back when I was a comics journalist for a minute in 2017 (?), I wrote about C.B Cebulski, Marvel's then-new EIC, and his weirdly long history of pretending to be a Japanese man named Akira Yoshida. He is now, many years later, leaving that job to become Editor, Asia Originals, at Marvel in Tokyo.

This woman grows more monstrous every day, and yet there are still queer people and allies out there supporting her work. There is no possible justification at this point.
1. TERF activist J.K. Rowling is threatening to bankrupt Amnesty International (UK) with lawsuits because the org dared release a report criticizing anti-trans organizaitons. The UK's laws are designed to allow rich people to suppress speech they do not like. Subscribe to support our journalism.
The thing about JKR and telling folks not to buy Harry Potter shit is it isn't because we think it can take away her fortune and platform. She's so rich she would still be rich if she never sold another book It is because it is literally the smallest possible hurdle to clear to value trans lives
We broke $2k! There's 9 days to go though, so keep sharing! It's still possible to reach the goal, we've seen KS's get funded in LESS time!
Thank you to everyone that's boosting the project! I can yell about how much you should care all day, but you guys really do make the difference! ☆ www.kickstarter.com/projects/wil...
My favorite Sam Neil fact will always be that he designed a future Australian flag that replaces the union jack with the aboriginal flag for Event Horizon and insisted the film use it.
