Spent the first #FallingBlockJam evening doodling some assets and setting up the basic SDL project with my framework, but I can only show you a little leak... _runs away_
Falling Block Jam 2026 begins now! You have 10 days to create an original game celebrating blocks and gravity. The optional theme this year is: 🍝 Spaghetti itch.io/jam/falling-...
Falling Block Jam 2026
A game jam from 2026-09-18 to 2026-09-28 hosted by davemakes. Falling Block Jam celebrates the combination of blocks and gravity in video games. Think Tetris, Puyo Puyo, Panel de Pon, Dr. Mario, and L...

Uhm... I think I'm skipping the theme 😅 #FallingBlockJam
putting a little AI generated stuff in your work is like putting a little sewage in a drink: now the whole thing is sewage
I haven't participated in a jam in more than a decade, so I'm a bit anxious about #FallingBlockJam, but also I can't wait to start prototyping the idea I have.
Thought exactly the same thing when I heard the news.
the people who are operating a technology that hit its fundamental limits a couple years ago and any progress since has been a patchwork of slapped on systems to vaguely correct errors are advocating for an AI development slow down but it's not because their technology has plateaued or anything
this is a public service announcement: you can use the C preprocessor for anything you want. other languages, html, css, text files. there's nothing they can do to stop you
This pisses me off so much about bad indie game reviews. Some of the bad reviews for indie games you see act like they expect your game to have the production value of a AAA game and make them literally orgasm non-stop for 35 years, and it better not cost more than $1.99.
Just a reminder: a game doesn’t have to be a 10/10 or even a 9/10 to be a good game. The “I only play masterpieces” shit is part of the reason the industry is where it is right now. Let games just be good.

Look, this place has its flaws but "hide reposts in feeds" is bliss.
"Look, my printer made the Mona Lisa in less than a minute!" Freaking morons... If your slop machine is so good, then come up with a good idea and use it to transform the idea into a good design and execution, both technical and artistic. I double dare you.
they keep coming
Was walking past this building and through the window saw this backrooms-ass room, so I accidentally took the coolest picture ever due to the window's reflection
I'm Christina I've been a professional illustrator since 2005 and a specialist game artist/ art director since 2009. I've worked for Mojang (on Minecraft), Netflix Games, WB Games I've been unemployed for 8+ months. I'm tired of rejection letters. Please help me find a paying project #gamedev
I might actually have a decent idea for #FallingBlockJam and it could be the perfect occasion to test some generic code I've been writing for SDL3. I've joined, let's see what happens.
You know what? Making your own little game is punk af.
Working hard on my game for #GirlyGameJam, it's been about a day and already got a visual style going, a bit of a concept, and interactivity! Really pleased with the results so far ✨
2000 reviews! Well I didn't expect this before we launched but I'll take it. :-)

What I’ll be doing this summer… and fall, winter, summer, fall… so excited to be working on this game and with such an awesome team.
An early lesson I learned on PixelJunk Shooter at Q-Games was moving fast. A few days before shipping a 1st milestone, we made really bold changes to the game pace & rules, it instantly felt like a different game. Maturing as a gamedev includes learning to enable the team to make bold changes.
Well, something fairly complete is actually shaping up in my mind... is this what being away from any pc for a few days does to your brain?
I've been playing the classic board game Labyrinth, lately, and now I kinda want to implement a digital version to try out some gameplay variants.

Got my (late) ADHD diagnosis when I started seeing the same struggles I always had in a lot of fellow gamedevs online that were already diagnosed.
Spoke to several people at Develop who have recently discovered that they are neurodiverse. Good for them! Basically though, if you are a videogame programmer and have had difficulties with some/many aspects of life since you were a kid, you probably are *something*. It's worth looking into it.
Gosh, I forgot to say: Forbidden Solitaire broke even (based on our 15 month dev time) ages ago. Like in week two!!
