NEW: I wrote for MSNBC about how Madison Square Garden turning off their facial recognition cameras for Taylor Swift is a perfect encapsulation of our dystopian present: where the wealthy can use surveillance to consolidate power, and the rest of us live in a privately owned panopticon.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got to buy MSG's privacy. Her fans aren't so lucky.

Reports that Madison Square Garden temporarily shut off its facial recognition system for Swift’s wedding expose a glaring problem with how the elite wield and control mass surveillance.

Guys I can’t keep doing this independently. I need a job. If you know of a place—advocacy, OSINT org, think tank, left media, etc—where I could take this work in-house, pls let me know. I admire the folks making independent work for them, but I am collapsing under the weight and the lack of impact.

A few minutes ago, two ICE flights operated by Journey Aviation landed in Eswatini, likely another third-country removal of immigrants to a maximum security prison there. Nineteen people have already been sent there on previous ICE flights in the last nine months. Only two have been released.

Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

what if we all agreed there should be a one week moratorium on new news so everyone could get caught up. everybody just take 5. no more stuff happening for a sec. i didn’t even know about bibi’s prostate cancer, for example.

This is a sick civilization. An open call to genocide. It is clear that Gaza is how we got here- tolerating genocide in one space begets another. Generations of our ancestors have worked to build something different, toward the preservation of earthly life. I hope I live to see this re-orientation.

Tucker Carlson: "It's vile. It begins w/ a promise to use the US military to commit a war crime. Those people who are in direct contact w/ the president need to say 'No. I'll resign. I'll do whatever I can do legally to stop this, bc this is insane. And if given the order, I'm not carrying it out'"

everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability

Democrats truly do need to use moral language to condemn republicans The right is the side of moral evil. No other group in the country is more objectively evil than right wing evangelical christians Do not let evangelicals own the concept of “morality”. Use moral language and people will respond

Imagine if the roles were reversed and Iran had the madman with nukes. A guy who destroyed a 250 year old democracy in about a year. Started a war for no reason. And then he posted that he was gonna end American civilization. How would you feel about Iranians saying "relax he's not serious"

Wow this is insane. The BBC posted a story yesterday with a supposed quote from an Iranian citizen saying he is okay with the US dropping an atomic bomb on Iran. After pushback, without public acknowledgment, they just changed the quote in the story to something completely different.

Text from the original BBC article:

Radin, also in his 20s and living in Tehran, said: "About then hitting energy infrastructure, using an atomic bomb, or levelling Iran. My honest reaction is that I'm OK with all of these."Text from the updated BBC story: Radin, also in his 20s and living in Tehran, said: "If attacking targets in the country brings down the Islamic Republic, I'm fine with that. Because if the Islamic Republic survives this war, it will stay forever."

If the world knows that the President of the United States is about to commit war crimes by bombing the infrastructure of another country, isn’t it imperative that he be prevented from doing so rather than simply watch it happen

“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.
