as long as you separate phenomenal consciousness from functional notions like wakefulness, awareness, etc, then it is obvious that AI systems are conscious in that sense. The only interesting question left is 'if they phenomenally conscious as well, what functional property is it associated with?"

I love working with graduate students and am always happy to take on new students, however my situation is somewhat unique. I am a philosopher in the cognitive neuroscience program and so don't have a lab. Students in the M.S. program in Cognitive Neuroscience need to complete an empirical thesis which means one of a few things. The first option would be a project that re-analyzes an existing data set to answer a novel question.

My spring semester has ended and the spring semester is about to end as I finish up the spring semester and prepare for my summer teaching. No, that is not a typo! That is three different spring semesters! NYU's spring semester ended in the second week of May, the Graduate Center's spring semester ended at the end of May, and LaGuardia's spring semester ends the second week of June.
