openingthefuture.net is a funding model for open access books. Designed for small/med scholarly publishers, it is free to use by any Press seeking a low-risk move towards OA. Doesn't rely on BPCs, is equitable, sustainable, & part of the Copim Community.

Great to see the achievements of #OPERAS in black and white (and colour!) in the Annual Report 2025 A fantastic year of growth, collaboration and progress towards a more open and sustainable scholarly communication ecosystem PS. Check out the focus on #OPERASUK on p. 42 👀 #ERIC #NationalNodes

Look, MIT Press are progressive in OA publishing. Heck, I have published with them and have another book under contract with them. But they always think they are the source of influence, never the influenced. They rarely acknowledge the work of others. www.researchinformation.info/analysis-opi...

Advertorial on MIT Press www.researchinformation.info/analysis-opi... “Our goal was… the impact that it had beyond MIT across the community,” she says. “It engendered a lot of copycat models… and that’s really what we wanted to see.” OtF launched at almost exactly the same time so no copying here 💅

A little treat created by @scholtom.bsky.social and inspired by the Copim report (coming soon!...ish) -- the Copim crew and friends! Tag yourself! (If you're not there though please don't tag Tom as this has already gone through multiple redrafts and it'll make him cry) #OAbooks #OpenAccess

I was really pleased to work with @openingthefuture.bsky.social again recently. We did a session about the idea of trying to 'market' open access better - I see a lot of comms, and a lot of advocacy, but not the marketing part that sits somewhere between them... #OA

As a colleague said on reading this depressing article: it feels like every week there's more evidence published that the sector is on its knees but there is deafening silence from anyone that can do anything about it.

As the one responsible for all tech in a state library/archive that's about the size & with the same remit as some national libraries, let me amplify: libraries need more funding. Tell your politicians & administrators. We are getting crushed by the fact that "digital" is more expensive than books.

Good news, but the fact that this is only happening now, nearly three years after the cyber attack shows 1) what a huge job BL staff have had rebuilding services, 2) that the BL is underfunded, and 3) the impact this has had on academic research, especially in the humanities.

The ALN is a fantastic group of libraries and our colleague Caroline a fab speaker - strongly recommend you attend if you can and if it's not too late!
