Ope there it is

EdD, Middle school humanities teacher, & QSA club advisor trying to make the chaos functional. This is obviously a personal account & my opinions are my own.

I remember sitting in the gallery and watching Richard’s vote against Democrats, schools, and kids over and over again in the amendments to the millionaire tax. Such a bummer to see him advance. Hopefully he’ll see the challenger doing as well as she did as a sign he needs to do better.

Primary results are in for the race between an incumbent and two challengers vying to represent Washington’s 26th Legislative District.

By contrast, genuine formative assessments i.e. internal classroom testing to understand areas of weakness and developmental opportunities are a very powerful educational tool when used that way. That has to stay divorced from progress testing otherwise it corrupts everything.

The war on trans people continues apace. 8,000–15,000 trans Americans have fled to WA since 2024, but funding for orgs that support trans people specifically has dropped 63%. This report highlights the problem in graphic/map form, & offers a solution. www.genderjusticeleague.org/expelled-fro...

The National Archives is shutting down its Chicago, San Francisco & Seattle research facilities. The closures rip public records out of the hands of the people, burying our history behind bureaucracy and darkness. This is NOT how democracy works!

It’s so weird. You’ve got 2 depts loudly insisting we need to “make America healthy again.” and “no fat troops”, and a 3rd equally loudly hating on keeping people safe while they do things that keep them healthy and fit.

Transportation officials have removed a growing list of safety materials that mention bike lanes from federal websites. Safety advocates warn that's undermining proven measures for reducing crashes. n.pr/4fqMx1n

Do you want to know how popular school vouchers are? They have never won on a ballot. Not once. In any state. Ever. The only way states are able pass a school voucher scheme is behind closed doors. Legislatively. The people would never approve their tax dollars going to private religious schools.

It bears repeating, cis men do not have to go through this. This entire genetic testing regime and concomitant anti-trans legal campaign will result in hundreds of thousands of intersex women being stigmatized and pushed out of society along with trans people. That is eugenics.

We’re never going to live on Mars. We’re never going to live on the Moon. There is no Planet B. We need to take care of our magical mystical miraculous planet like it’s the only home we will ever have. Because it is.

They say books won’t change the world. Tell that to every colonizer who burned them. To every enslaved person who was punished for reading. Literacy is resistance. Literacy is liberation. The library is a battlefield.

The Downtown Seattle Association claims taxing high earners is driving down employment in Seattle, and they point to high vacancy rates and lower total *downtown* employment to prove the point. A look at the data shows this is total BS. Here is how it works: www.theurbanist.org/op-ed-the-da...

Op-Ed: The Data Says Seattle’s High Earners Tax Is Working, Despite Whining from Big Business

The Downtown Seattle Association recently released a “report” that was meant to convince us that taxes on high earners are smothering the Seattle economy. Here’s why their analysis is flat wrong.

“When were you there last?” is my fave question for people complaining about how dirty or dangerous a city is. Recent answers abt Seattle: “oh at least a year ago” and “I’d never go there.” Dude, this city is beautiful (and very walkable), with great public transit. But yeah, stay home and hate.

Just buildings in Seattle by the downtown library all clean and nice 5th street side of the Seattle public library: a street with a car driving by and the library building which is glass and metal lattice at a 45dsgtee angle leading up to a vertical tower which angles out for the top 1/3

This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.

Tolkien wrote a YA novel where the villain was Smaug, an evil dragon that hoarded wealth & polluted the earth. Everyone working in tech who loves that book & that author has missed its point. These are also the same people who assert that thinking about literature is a waste of time. 🤬🤬

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

ICE is surging in the Seattle area. (Map shows activity in the last week) Do you have your whistle with you?

They aren’t even hiding who they are anymore. I can’t believe people are of such poor moral character that they even vote for people who agree with harming innocent children while helping pedophilic elites. This society is morally bankrupted.

Citing a *potential* defeat of the millionaires tax through a Nov ballot initiative, Joy Hollingsworth is proposing to cut costs by defunding Seattle’s (newly announced) universal school meal program. We’re on-site to share updates, and livestream here: www.seattlechannel.org/videos?video...
