Proud of the DinoCon team for standing up for the community and for celebrating human art and artists ❤️ I was heartbroken and disappointed with that talk specifically, but being part of a community of incredible, creative, kind people who are so supportive of each other - that is special. ❤️

I do not use and will never use generative AI to make my plushie patterns or artwork. I enjoy the process too much and learn so much about each animal I make when drawing them, I will never let a machine take away this joy from me.
GenAI is absolutely vile for many reasons, and I have no patience for anyone who intentionally uses it.
Great news on #MesozoicArtII relevant to buyers in the USA -- I'm reliably informed that you can order direct from Bloomsbury's US site, and that the book qualifies for free shipping. I can't test that from here (as in the UK), but I hope it works out :) @sharkbitesteve.bsky.social

Mesozoic Art II, Palaeoart Portfolio for the 2020s — Tetrapod Zoology
Among the most successful of books I’ve been involved in are those devoted to palaeoart. In particular, I’m thinking here of 2022’s Mesozoic Art , edited by Steve White and myself and published by Bl...

The first image is a beautiful illustration by the talented artist @orribec.bsky.social. Long ago in ancient northern China, during the Neogene Period. During the dry season, with no trees in sight, a single amebelodontid proboscidean called Platybelodon grangeri is searching hard for a place to
This paper has a lot of nice data that does seem to indicate an overlooked distinctiveness, but to do taxonomic revisions without any genetic data on living species should not be a thing in 2025. Even if a species is so rare that such data is difficult to obtain it would seem better to wait.
There is a recent proposal to classify the Javan rhinoceros as its own distinct genus Eurhinoceros. So five species in five genera of extant rhino. zookeys.pensoft.net/article/1278...
I am one of the artists that will be featured in this book. Out September this year. An excellent list of names to be included amongst and if you haven't seen volume 1 it is very much worth getting.

Close-up crop to show some detail of the interesting dentition. Also Mesosaurs like the one swimming for its life shown here are not currently known from the Gai-As Formation (not many vertebrate fossils of any kind are known here), but were abundant in the underlying Huab Formation.
