Latest from the lab: @ruolinwu.bsky.social integrates fossil and molecular evidence to estimate the timing of origin of flowering plants. Thanks to @sabifo4.bsky.social @jameswclark.bsky.social Yue Tong, Shan Wan, Davide Pisani, Harald Schneider and Daniele Silvestro for helping to make this happen
The broader implication extends beyond flowering plants. Many famous "rocks vs. clocks" debates may not require choosing sides. The challenge is finding better ways to let fossils and molecules speak to each other. Link to our latest: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Registrations are open to attend the Computational Molecular Evolution course next year (May 9th - 20th) in wonderful Crete! ☀️ Do not miss the deadline, follow the link below for more info and registration details! 🔽 meetings.embo.org/event/27-com...
Computational molecular evolution
The need for effective and informed analysis of biological data is increasing with the explosive growth of genomic data. A phylogenetic framework is central to many molecular evolutionary approaches …

I am recruiting Ph.D. students this cycle. Students interested in deep-sea fishes and phylogenetic comparative methods are an especially good fit.
Hey Bluesky! Emerging from my dissertation-formatting cave to share that I defended my PhD last week! So many incredible people helped me reach this point, especially over the last few months as I scrambled to finish in time. I’m lucky to be surrounded by such good friends.
Get excited :) PhyloSpec is coming! A shared standard + modelling language for phylogenetic models. Write a model once, run it across engines like BEAST X, BEAST 2.8 & RevBayes. Easy and reproducible. Built by @tochsner.bsky.social & collaborators (ETH Zürich, Auckland, LMU). phylospec.com

I'm happy to share our latest publication which records the first evidence of intraspecific variations in the venation of D. chrysippus. These variations are of taxonomic importance vis-a-vis the genus. doi.org/10.33307/ent...
Huge congratulations to my graduate student, @crowleyk.bsky.social, as the recipient of the prestigious Winifred Goldring Award from the Association for Women Geoscientists! Way to go Kiera!

Reminder for the #Evol2026 folks. At the Princeton Uni Press booth, if you give them your contact info, you can reserve a book to take home free at the end of the conference. (Limit 1 per person)
Hope to see y'all at #Evol2026! I'll be talking about my simulation tests of cutting-edge fossilized birth-death models, and what we can learn from the Canidae phylogeny using these models. Come through! It'll be on Sunday (June 21st) at 5:15PM, room 22. Last talk first day 🤙
Some angiosperm groups are highly diverse, yet their flowers are surprisingly uniform. Investigating Mimosa flowers, we found that floral morphology is homogeneous and constrained, especially for traits linked with inflorescence, suggesting that development and function canalize floral evolution.
🎉 Good news! The paper ‘When morphology stands still: constrained floral evolution in a mega-diverse legume genus’ in @annbot.bsky.social by M. Maianne @mimomaianne.bsky.social is now #free for 2 weeks 🧵1/10 👉 doi.org/rbsb @souzayagob.bsky.social @fmachado.bsky.social @aquitemcaqui.bsky.social
