The Cognition and Brain Circuitry Lab at OSU, focusing on brain connectivity, function, and behavior, with a special focus on visual perception and attention. Thoughts and opinions are our own. Lab website: https://www.davidosher.com/index.html

Tragically forgot to take a picture (having too much fun), but today we welcomed our new grad student, Libby, to the lab! This lab manager highly recommends bringing Kahoots to your lab meetings, we had a very laughter-filled time playing a get-to-know-you game! Turns out Keara knows us best :)

✨Your 2025-2026 CBC Lab✨ Another great academic year comes to an end! Thank you to all our lab members and collaborators for their hard work, and a big congrats to all you have accomplished!

Members of the CBC Lab stand in front of the psychology building in two rows. A fully grown tree takes up the majority of the upper third space, the sunlight nicely backlighting it. Members in the back row are (from left to right): Joseph Gera, Derrek Montalvo, David Osher, Isaac Liao, and Terra Miller. Members in the front row are (from left to right): Ren Hentz, Sam Froehle, Yuxuan Zeng, Keara Ginell, and Lily Dettmer.Members of the CBC Lab stand in two rows in front of the psychology building, as in the previous photo, but now they are making hearts with their hands!!

Excited to share that our new paper is out! Holistic processing can emerge for non-face objects, with no expertise required. Configuration (both 1st and 2nd order) is all you need! For CNN and correlation with face recognition read the paper!

‼️ New article alert! ‼️ Yuxuan Zeng and @zitonglu.bsky.social challenge the idea that faces are unique in their ability to recruit holistic processing. Read the paper here!: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Happy to see this paper officially published in Cognitive Psychology! A nice collaboration with Yuxuan Zeng and David Osher at OSU. We find face-like holistic processing in non-face stimuli - and Configuration is the answer! doi.org/10.1016/j.co...

‼️ Exciting preprint alert ‼️ Yuxuan Zeng and @zitonglu.bsky.social demonstrate that holistic processing, commonly associated with face processing can be induced using configural, nonface stimuli! doi.org/10.1101/2025...

And of course, our annual holiday party with the @zlab.bsky.social ! Our white elephant gift exchange was particularly lively this year, with great creativity going into the wrapping and one gift being a rotisserie chicken (stored safely in the fridge until the game!)!

The CBC lab stands in front of a Christmas tree. There are two rows of lab members; in the back row is Terra, Isaac, Joseph, and David, and in the front row is Ren and Keara.
