Classical liberal. Strong believer in liberal democracy. Russia must be defeated.

A russian ballistic missile, supplied by North Korea, killed the family of Voronovi last night, incl parents Olena and Artem, and three of their underage children: Mark, Azariy Ilai, and Emiliia. Other kids — Zakharii, Dominika, Viorika, Federika, and 18mo grandson Artem — are missing.

Do read. I'm a journalist, and post during air raids, as huge explosions go off outside, for basically the same reason (though it's also my profession): The story must be told. As for the people who troll you online during air raids - they're the scum of the Earth.

"Spare me the humiliation theory. russia was not humiliated after the Cold War. It was indulged — and it read every kindness as weakness, every gift as tribute. The grievance was never mistreatment. The grievance was lost dominion."

OTD in 1981 West Germany signed agreement to build Yamal pipeline with USSR. Barely 18 months after we had invaded Afghanistan, it's part of tradition of not letting invasions stop cheap Russian gas. Things have changed now, haven't they?

In which other country in Europe could the public achieve the replacement of the head of the military by popular demand, during wartime, when elections are illegal? In which other country could this even be achieved in peacetime? Ukraine is democracy’s standard-bearer now.

Last night, Russia attacked a European capital with over 40 ballistic missiles. That leads nowhere in European news headlines this morning. Russian terror, murder and destruction are simply taken in stride as a normal story.

🇺🇦🙏 Zelensky: During the week, Russia used about 2,200 strike drones, over 1,730 guided bombs and 106 missiles of various types against Ukraine, almost half of them ballistic. There was a massive strike on Kyiv, which took the lives of 31 people, and another 102 were injured. 4 of them children.

Kherson, just 3w apart. russia is destroying the city piece by piece, w/ no consequence. russians bring nothing but death and destruction. The free world should not be afraid of russia losing this war. It should be afraid of russia's continuous impunity. Video: Kherson Live.

Russian artist Semyon Skrepetsky was killed in Poland, three days after holding a solo anti-Putin protest featuring an icon-like caricature of Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Skrepetsky is known for his sharp criticism of Putin, the Kremlin, and Russia in general.

There are countless videos of Russia’s “human safari” in Kherson. Anyone who claims that Russia is exercising restraint and trying to spare Ukrainian civilians is either an idiot or a manipulator. Don’t trust them.

The Ukrainian Review@theukrainianreview.bsky.social · 2mo ago

🤬 Russians publishes another footage of the murder of civilians in Kherson, boasting about its resources and declaring that it will continue to engage in terror.

Mélenchon gave his campaign opening speech yesterday and he sadly has quite some momentum right now. His foreign policy on Russia and China is even worse than the RN’s, which says a lot. The worst thing for France would be Bardella vs Mélenchon in the second round in 2027

This is wild: russia struck the Central storage facility for spent nuclear fuel in Kyiv region. The attack partially damaged the building used to receive nuclear fuel containers and sparked a fire, which has since been extinguished. Fortunately, no nuclear fuel was stored in the affected section.

My latest for @policymag.bsky.social “we should not be looking for a change of heart in the Kremlin, but for signs of a systemic failure [..] Until then, hopes for a “negotiated settlement” serve only to prolong the bloodshed. Russia will not take an off-ramp; it needs to be defeated.”

Putin's Delusion and the Myth of a Negotiated Peace - Policy Magazine

On one hand, we have President Volodymyr Zelensky’s open letter to Vladimir Putin, a document that invites the Russian president to a face-to-face meeting to

How about we (the West) stop saying "we need to increase support to Ukraine to bring Putin to the negotiating table" and start saying "we increase support until Ukraine defeats Russia"? "Putin at the negotiating table" is just some weird phantasy existing only in Western minds.

In a deliberate act of ecocide, 3yrs ago today russia destroyed the Kakhovka dam, murdering people, causing a minimum of $14 billion in damage, flooding villages and towns, devastating ecosystems, and killing animals. We must not allow russia to whitewash itself.

“ALBANIA FOR ALBANIANS!” Massive protests against Ivanka Trump & Kushner’s luxury private island project in the Mediterranean and the corruption that is enabling it, as the Trumps continue to personally profit while in office.

The Trump administration continues to try to realign the US away from the West and towards Russia. Last year it rolled out the red carpet in Alaska; now it's at Putin's pound shop Davos to show off pictures of a ballroom. It's trying to enhance Russia's status at the cost of the US's.

Scott Pelley gave an impassioned speech a year ago that’s worth watching today. Kudos to him and other 60 Minutes correspondents and staff for defending the media and our democracy.

Russia wants us to discuss who talks to them, And they are already picking who is suitable for that. Let's not walk into that trap. Negotiations are always a team effort, with a defined strategy. That’s why the substance that we discuss today in Cyprus matters much more.
