A sweet little moment with this 2026 calf, T046B8/Pi, and their mom, T046B/Raksha off Lummi Island last night.

Yesterday we had the T2Cs, T63 + T65, T64Bs, T65As, T100s, T123s, T124As, T124A4s, T125A, T128, mystery orcas in Hood Canal, a minke, gray whales still hanging around, humpbacks EVERYWHERE, and porpoises + dolphins reported throughout the Salish Sea. Who will show up today??

Stacks on stacks. One thing I miss about commercial photography is how it connected me with some of the coolest, most creative minds. @ourwildpugetsound.com is doing that in a different way and all of these tea towels are heading out to a really cool hyper-local food event, which feels perfect.

We interrupt Minke May to share an update on the minke whale's predators, Bigg's killer whales. Sam Murphy of Island Adventures Whale Watching photographed a new calf with members of the T124A family. The calf was closest to T124A1 "Bonapartes", but more encounters are needed to confirm maternity.

This whale is still in the area, reportedly a little further south now near Bremerton + Dyes Inlet. Please keep an eye out if you're on the water. Baleen whales pop up quickly and without warning. This one is not doing super well so it also may be spending time just under the surface.
