The US has no credibility to talk about human rights while it disappears people at home, murders people in Latin America, and supports Israel’s genocide in Gaza and unilateral attacks on neighboring countries. Last year, Israel bombed Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iran, and Qatar.

Trump says he wants regime change in Iran. History shows us that regime changes imposed by imperialist violence are devastating failures even on their own terms. Attempting this in Iran would almost certainly require a protracted war with US troops on the ground.

The justifications used by the Trump admin are lies: ➡️ Iran has no long-range missiles that can reach the US ➡️ Iran had not restarted nuclear weapons production ➡️ The Iranian government has repeatedly said it has no interest in nuclear weapons and is willing to negotiate.

Bombing another country and kidnapping its leader would also be wrong with Congressional approval. The outrage, and call for impeachment, should be over the evil and illegal outcome not merely the failure to follow the prescribed process.

Watching Trump speak and justify why the US is entitled to invade another country and kidnap the president makes me think that when we started talking about the “post-truth” era, we had no idea of how deeply post-truth it’d become. Perception of reality is now random and optional.
