An excellent overview and “easy read” of how cars affect our lives. It’s been an experiment of a bit over 100 years with cars, and the evidence shows that the losses to our wealth, health, and quality of life are mounting. This book helps with rethinking the role of cars in our lives and society.

If we approached traffic danger as a #publicHealth issue, we’d focus on the hazard. Unfortunately people seem to give a pass to the danger imposed by cars, but the difference in hazards is HUGE between cars and micromobility. Let’s take a scientific approach to the problem and focus on the hazard.

The critical component of traffic hazard is #speed. Secondary is the mass. Most deaths are from cars, yet we often see the speed limit of micromobility limited. What would people say the speed limit should be of those modes if asked independently? #trafficHazard #trafficDanger #motonormativity

Pr. Bob Schneider was resenting on how land use impacts 🚶‍♀️ and cyclist road fatalities. He’s highlighting how land use spreads out, speed needs to increase to give similar accessibility, which creates more hazardous ⚠️ conditions.

PT 🚌 or parking 🅿️ - which do we subsidize💸 more? Costs to build a parking spot can be $20k, then there are costs of the land and such. This is a question - I don't have the answer. There are 6 to 8 parking spots per car, and in many cases these spots are provided free - i.e., 100 % subsidized.

As a regular transit user, as a single, with a friend/colleague, or even as a family, RARELY do the 4 seats facing each other make sense and just end up being used infrequently at full capacity.
