Contra the discourse, I've been listening to Choosin' Texas for 11 months, I've heard it at karaoke, county fairs & in covers or remixes by Waxahatchee & Drake. It's a terrific song co-written by maybe our greatest working country songwriter, the performance is spotless, and I'm still not sick of it

Here to write things that don’t matter in a place no one looks. Poptimism, vulgar auteurism and sabermetrics are the same.

Enough of the horrors and doom scrolling. Let's talk about something fun. How do you arrange your books?
Someone let the brilliant, enthusiastic, tattooed Classics scholar take down every Nolan movie
Sometimes I wonder why no one talks about Girls Aloud so ty Pink Pantheress for calling Biology the most underrated British music in an interview 🙌🏻

Tell me your favorite cover songs recorded in a different language than the original. This is an obsession of mine and I need more for the collection!
You: please act normal you need these people to like you Me: ok! People: hi Me: what do the European square, newsprint comics, & theater framed by the proscenium arch have in common with academy ratio? Harmony between a subject & its context gives it life, minimizing entropy by creating a closed…
You: please act normal you need these people to like you Me: ok! People: hi Me: in strict terms, one has to wonder exactly what the infrastructure supporting the people of Númenor's attendance of the Ruxotompalë or the Great Bear-dance as it was more commonly known was, but if you'll allow me...
To come up with four, I'd have to root around in the back of a catch-all drawer for whichever amusing or serviceable action movie my fingers happened upon
what are your four favorite 2026 films so far 👀
Something no one mentions when they're reminiscing about video stores is the type of guy who would insist that Iike Ned Kelly was the greatest movie ever made, and he'd just rent Ned Kelly every other month. I wonder what that guy's up to
The Matrix Resurrections was never going to pop off bc the entire thing is deconstructing the legacy of what it means for queer and trans pepople vs what it means for everyone else, but it deserved a better chance than it got. It was doomed bc it came out the same day as the Omicron strain of Covid!
You can't suck me in with your What Movie Infuriated You prompts, I'm busy watching Alan Rudolph's complete œuvre. I'm hearing Mark Isham & Teddy Pendergrass in my sleep
I've been thinking about this sign for 6 months. a phrase I'll treasure forever. a metaphor with boundless potential
Leave Her to Heaven (1945, John Stahl) is such a beautiful movie
God bless Brad Stevens, who has, as usual, the most interesting & diffident Sight and Sound top ten. Is anyone more dedicated to the film maudit?
Someone told me they don’t like jazz bc it’s not emotional enough. That’s like saying you don’t like furniture bc it’s not emotional enough, you don’t like Montreal, cafes, wool sweaters, porcupines or the letters X, Y & Z bc they’re not emotional enough.
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope. Yes, THAT Pope.
My mom watched S01 as it aired but I was 9 & only caught snippets. As soon as I could drive, I rented the whole series on VHS from a video store 30 minutes away, and rewatched parts of it when it came out on DVD. Notoriously, the pilot wasn’t included in either release, so I didn’t see it until 2014
I was lucky enough to watch #TwinPeaks in the order it came out but for many, the first two seasons were hard to come by so #FireWalkWithMe was their introduction. Not until the show hit Netflix and released on DVD did it take off again. How did you first find "Twin Peaks"?
PTU: rich, funny, theatrical, mannerist. The first Johnnie To movie I didn’t just admire but loved, with arguably the defining role for Lam Suet, the greatest supporting actor since Walter Brennan. Endlessly rewatchable.
The Fishing Place (2024, Rob Tregenza) eluded me as narrative but the photography sure hits
I’m two ★★★★ Letterboxd logs of late Linklater or Assayas away from admitting I like the movie equivalent of soft rock
The most confusing things to me about dating are when they've never heard of cross-contamination, and when they don't believe clicking on a trackpad with your thumb is a thing. Plus everything else

History's littered with beautiful ideas for movies that never got made—Soderbergh's conclusion to Star Wars is the latest—but Abel Ferrara saying on Conan in '96 that he wants to do "Cheers with a little T&A" and ACTUALLY DOING IT 10 yrs later kinda makes up for all of them youtu.be/aY7yyhjOXWw?...
