With layoffs at Xbox, sources indicate accessibility efforts have also been affected. What was once a champion of accessibility is now a shell of its former self, unsure if accessibility even has a place at the new Xbox. Read my first report for @aftermath.site here: aftermath.site/xbox-layoffs...

Layoffs Leave The Future Of Xbox’s Award-Winning Accessibility Efforts In Doubt

Former workers say Xbox cuts leave less resources and experts to make sure games are developed, labelled, and tested with accessibility in mind

With SGF this week, I wanted to explore the impact of no remote events, especially as a disabled reporter. This industry thrives on in person events for making connections, but what does that look like for me? Read my first byline for @mothership.blog here: www.mothership.blog/as-a-disable...

As a disabled games reporter, I've only been able to attend one in-person event

The impact on my career and relationships with other journalists is tangible

look i’m someone who dabbles in hopecore within my political beliefs, but I think the next GE is going to feel like having my skin shaved off 🎀

I’m not sure there is a bleaker - or older - phenomenon in politics than desperate voters turning to charlatans and bigots for change. Reform councillors will do nothing to help someone’s elderly Mum get social care or keep the local library open for kids. And Farage is laughing his arse off.

We’re so close to the target goal of 30k! We just want to bring him home, adapt his house to his new needs/disability and get the equipment he needs! He has very severe Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness, it’s been a painful 6 months of grief and confusion. Thank you to those who shared/donated

Friendly reminder that Disabled people still can't legally get married without losing their benefits! Certain states have workarounds, but if you require federal assistance, you're out of luck. We still don't have access to the same rights as others 36 years later

Today is the 36th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl and disabled people are still fighting for basic rights in a society that's actively working to undermine them, surrounded by systemic disablism. (This is a corrected thread TY to the person who flagged that I said 26th, not 36th!)

How do you fix journalism? Fucking pay for it. Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe. The rise of right-wing media is because the rich funded it. The fall of legacy media is because the rich funded it and then decided not to.

Thank you everyone! Advocating for accessibility is often a hard and emotionally draining job. We often remember the features that got cut and forget the progress we make. The GA Conf awards is an amazing opportunity to celebrate the games and the people who make accessible games possible.

One final report from me before the holiday – I spoke with disabled players who noted this year's Game Awards caused seizure-like symptoms and migraines. Some reveals like Divinity caused approximately four hours of pain. Read more here: accessgranted.ghost.io/live-perform...

Live Performances and Trailers Cause Seizure Effects and Migraines at The Game Awards

For a report for Access Granted, I'm looking to speak with accessibility consultants who HAVEN'T been credited for the games they've worked on. I'm aware of this impacting future opportunities, so I can assure anonymity. Feel free to send me a message if you wish to speak about your experiences!

Now that I have my own newsletter, if anyone has any tips or leads that you want me to explore with accessibility or disability, feel free to send me an email or message me on here! And as always, if you enjoy my work, please consider subscribing!
