I'm a middle aged / class straight brit-irish white guy with no experience of the profession of academia. So I didn't comment on it then and won't now. But as a comms professional i recognise why people communicate and engage newsjack and I hope they shut the fuck up for a little while

Zhukov was the most consequential General Officer of WW2. Jason Isaacs played him more as Rokosovski but suspect he doesn't know that. Far less glamourous and significantly earthier - but also deeply intelligent and strategic.

The joy of exiting the EU with new border control systems. No pleading for special status, but it might be worth some air/ports investing in additional logistics? Hopefully just teething issues - but suspect some places will always be swamped.

The parallels with Johnson are uncanny - the greed, the thin skin, the populism, the ability to play people and the media for quite a long period of time until the other parties in the equation get bored, suspicious or start scrutinising properly. How we break the cycle is another matter entirely

Resurfacing briefly to say this is, IMO, one of the most important TV documentaries ever made. You walk away with no illusions about how things unfolded with the willing help of people at every level of society. If you don't want to watch it right now, which I totally understand, come back to it.

I do like Bluesky, but it's ever so quiet and no-one ever RTs anything (me included, I need to get better on that) so I never find new people to follow. With that in mind, who are the good cricket people on here?
I think this is probably going to be the case. No difference in law / process between UK and any other aspirant. As I've mentioned before only opportunity would be if something really bad happened eg when Churchill offered political union to France in 1940.

Are there any examples of domestic politicians who were very unpopular early in their career but popular later on? Other than Churchill.
One sees this in industry all the time. #PR and #comms people are told "strategy is a waste of time, get out there and do more. You need to believe". Almost every single time I've heard this its because management have run out of ideas, but they own the company so.......

Having worked as a #PR / #comms advisor to some UHNWI types id say there's a few simple reasons. (1) cost doesn't matter to them (2) they are used to putting money down to sort a problem asap (3) lawyers often provide fixer / triage (4) lawyers are very good at selling service as magic wand....
