Weather now says 91% chance (not 90%, please understand) that we get 0.40 inches of heavy rain starting at 9 p.m. Most of our desert forecasts are wrong, so I'm not holding my breath.
Would have liked a little more killer instinct from offense today versus a guy they can hit, but I guess that's par for the Phillies season.

If it’s not an injury or some other specific explanation, do the Phillies really look at Painter in a role just pitching two trips through the order now as the 5th starter?
Really impressive rebound by Painter tonight after starting the game with 1st-and-3rd and no outs. Didn't wilt.

It's going to be interesting to see what the Phillies do when Marchan is ready to return. Really no one on the roster who can/should be sent down. I suspect they'll try to drag it out until roster expansion on Sept. 1, then do 3 catchers again.
Weirdly, the new Phillies lineup could lead to *more* men on base for Bohm.
The Nats' win prob in their last four games against the Phillies: 99% 96% 97% 93% 0-4 The odds of losing all four of those games? 0.000084% Roughly 1 in 1,190,476 It's not normal and there is no chance this has ever happened before. Never normalize it as just "bullpen weirdness."
Another Andrew Painter question: If he takes his turn for the rest of the season and is moderately effective he will finish regular season with about 150 innings (Phillies & LHV combined). Should Phillies let him pitch more in October? He threw 118 IP in 2025.
Even if Hill hadn't GIDP, it was Stubbs on deck and the Phillies' backup catchers are 14 for 124 this year (.113). Back when pitchers hit, I'd say two-thirds of them hit better than .113
Among many other things with Phillies, I think that Schwarber isn't right. And that's not really surmountable.
Today would have looked a lot rougher for Phillies if Braves had a good deadline. They did not. Of course they're getting Acuna back. But I think we match up well with them in a potential wild-card series.
I actually think the most pressing question for the Phillies offense the rest of the way is what Brandon Marsh they get. If it's All-Star Marsh this offense is very good.

Bump. This now stands. Painter is here to stay and has to keep them in games. And there's really no one in LHV who's going to bump anyone off the October roster. Pray for no injuries, because the Phillies have zero depth beyond putting Edmundo Sosa everywhere.

IMO National League is pretty clearly: 1. Dodgers 2. Brewers 3. Cubs 4. Phillies/Braves Arizona, San Diego, maybe Miami will vie for the other wild card. Who knows what happens but best guess is that Phillies play Cubs or Padres in the best-of-three. Or Braves, lol.
