It’s incoherent to allege it’s a dogwhistle for a candidate to say AIPAC bought a race where AIPAC (1) took credit for defeating the candidate, and (2) spent money to prop up a 2nd candidate to clog her lane (whom they also took credit for beating). AIPAC mismanaging spend does not absolve them.

Since some people seem to be confused about this: the dogwhistle is saying that AIPAC bought the election she lost. They did not, and in fact they also opposed her opponent. So how am I supposed to interpret this unless we take “AIPAC” to be a synecdoche for something else.

Begging writers and editors to ask basic questions before pressing publish. 1. Is my proposal feasible? Who, specifically are the “Democrats” and by what mechanism would they “reject” DSA? 2. Would my proposal achieve the stated result? Will this prevent Republicans from calling Dems communists?

The vibes may be exciting, but if Democrats are going to win this year and in 2028, they must reject the DSA. If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.

Schumer not only recruited Mills, he also actively discouraged other potential candidates from getting in the race. He thought he was clearing the field for Mills, but he ended up clearing the field for Platner. Whether it is inherently his job or not, once he starts tinkering he owns the output.

Seems a bit early to say Platner had his life destroyed. There are several paths for him to parlay all of this into something he will enjoy more than the path he was on when it started (sexting women not his wife)

People are predictably very angry at me for expressing even a sliver of empathy for the guy. I’m sorry, but if membership your movement precludes that minimum level of humanity towards people who have done terrible things or made terrible decisions, please count me out of it.
