Infopro, currently working on an NHS EPR, but this is mostly music, theatre, arts, Sheffield, cats & a bit of leftish politics... Also, @Sheffiness on IG for anyone who likes fuzzy phone gig pics

Happy Lincolnshire Day! This is my grandad with his steam pumping engine (at Digby Fen, S Lincs). Man and machine kept people safe from fenland flooding for many years during the last century.

A middle aged man in a checked shirt, smoking a pipe, leans nonchalantly against a railing, alongside pressure gauges and a gleaming, highly-polished steam-powered pumping engine, used to divert water off low-lying fenland in Lincolnshire. Behind him is a wooden panel on the wall, displaying gigantic spanners, for use in his work, operating the engine. Photo in black and white, c. 1960s.

...Put those together and the result is that over 15 years the triple lock has pushed up the state pension in cash terms by more than growth in average earnings and more than the increase in prices...4/5

such a good eg of why political argument matters - polling previously showed over 60% support for keeping triple lock. Argue to unlock it *for something people also want* & numbers can change. (Obv can change back again if someone makes a good argument against, but either way, politics=argument)

An important and complex issue. On a related note, I would like to see much done about flexible working patterns and reduced hours contracts (including for professional roles), for people of all ages, but particularly for over 50s. May not have capacity for 40 hours, but still much to contribute.

2.9 million people aged 50 to state pension age are NETERs – people aged between 50 and state pension currently not in employment, training, education or retirement. And a growing number of organisations believe they should be more visible in our labour market statistics.

Business-speak phrase I dislike probably more than any other... "I'm going to give you some time back" (when a meeting finishes earlier than scheduled) Especially when the expectation is you're going to go away and get more work done, rather than a coffee/extended lunch.

Yes, for utilities and online shopping. My mum still won't entertain the idea of online banking, nor even having her own smartphone. Very good article with contextual links. I didn't know about AskSilver.com for scam checking - probably useful for many, not just oldies.
