Four lessons I've learned making #ttrpgs: 1. Never spend more than two years honing/developing a game if the play experience doesn't feel fun in the ways you want it to be in the first two iterations. It's extremely unlikely you'll manage to make it fun how you want to if it's not early on.
Daddy: "Okay kiddo, you know it's primary election day today in a lot of places? Not Colorado though. You remember ours was a few weeks ago? I'll give you a thousand points if you can tell me one person who's a candidate today." Kiddo: "Count Binface?"
Kalshi is people gambling on the outcome. It's not actual polling.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

When you hear it said (and you will hear it said) that the two people in Michigan who have died of cyclospora both had “underlying conditions,” it is important to remember that having “underlying conditions” is just part of being human.
I ❓ when this changed in Michigan. I moved to a red-leaning Michigan city in September of an election year when I was 28 and got canvassed that week by a Democrat running against a Republican incumbent. She was happy until I asked her the deadline to register to vote and she told me I'd missed it.
Did you know that it’s not too late to register to vote? Bring proof of residency to your city or township clerk’s office TODAY until 8 p.m. and cast your ballot. mi.gov/vote
I witnessed something yesterday in contrast to the awful, performed masculinities of Miller, Platner, the Tates, etc, that I'm still thinking about. You know most lifeguards at outdoor pools are summer jobs done by college and high school students? I took my son to an outdoor pool yesterday ...
I made some refillable books for mini zines out of a bunch of random stuff in my house! I think I got enough of the floral print to make 2 more. Each book holds 10 zines.
Kiddo: "Daddy, I think the Dungeon Crawler Carl TV series is going to be good. I think maybe two or more good memes will come out of it." Daddy: "<cough>uh...is that how people measure a show now? By the memes that come out of it?" Kiddo: "Yes, because online ratings are being gamed by AI bots."
He's losing words. Anyone with a parent or loved one suffering from dementia will recognize this pattern. Wen he says "moving cameras," it's because he can't recall the word "videos" and so he's stating the component parts as best he can. E.g., a "camera" is involved and the images are "moving"
Trump: "We have photographs or tapes -- like moving cameras, right? -- where people are on the side cutting it with a box knife."
Has anyone made a train game about capital using a wildly popular high speed rail project as a vehicle for transferring tax dollars to political ally contractors, ensuring the railway never finishes so they can milk it for eternity? Or are you always incentivized to actually finish the trains?
Being the finance lead for rascal the last year has been a gradually worsening job, only because I have to be the bearer of bad news each month as the global economy gets worse and worse. If you want Rascal to continue to exist for years to come, we need your support

The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.
Any folks in the US wanna do a zine trade via snail mail?? I've got the games in the quote below and some mini zines too. I'm down to trade for game zines and non-game zines alike!

As we come ever closer to the end of the Hugo Awards voting period, a reminder: no matter which work you believe deserves to win the Best Poem category, just casting your vote sends a strong message for the value of the category.
Hugo Awards voting is still open until August 8th! Whether you're already deep in the voter packet or haven't even glanced at the nominees yet, please read and vote for the works in the Best Poem category and support speculative poetry as a core element of genre! www.lacon.org/hugofinalists/
It's definitely a disaster for Gen Con if the drama of tornado sirens and flooding and rainwater pouring into the halls is what people are talking about more than what they enjoyed the most.
I remember when FedEx was the expensive shipper, but reliable. Now they're so weird and dodgy. They lie about delivery attempts. Half the time their website can't pull up a tracking number you just tracked an hour ago and then gaslights you that you probably didn't enter it right.
There's this recurring figure in Minoan art that scholars refer to as the "Minoan Genius". They describe it as a hippopotamus-headed or lion-headed humanoid and say it's derived from the Egyptian hippopotamus-headed fertility and childbirth goddess Taweret. They describe how earlier instances have..
I love going to modern websites. You’ll be looking for a pancake recipe, and then the pancake recipe site will hit you with “by looking at pancake recipes, you have agreed to arbitration”

My favorite at the Denver Art Museum yesterday, a porcelain sculpture of a burned book by artist Liu Danhua.
Did not get to see this exhibit today. Bizarre administrative decision for Denver Art Museum to close the exhibit *yesterday*, when today was the big Colorado Day event and they were going to be full of visitors. All the signage was still up for it, but the exhibit was cordoned off. Disappointing.
Luckily, I got to see the exhibition of Australian Indigenous art, The Stars We Do Not See, more than once at the Denver Art Museum. Amazing piece, lying flat, just paint on canvas: Kalipinypa by Charlotte Phillipus Napurrula. (Check out description of work in reply.)

Best/weird swag at the Colorado Day event today was this deck of playing cards with energy saving tips on them from the Xcel Energy stand. Now I need to make a journaling game that uses them somehow. Any ideas? #journalGaming
Smart performers at Colorado Day hand out the lyrics, because otherwise everyone trying to sing along only knows the one central phrase.
