After 4 years, 11 months, 13 days & 36 minutes, my basic flight training has come to an end. I flew my first lesson on Aug 22 2021. Today, Aug 4 2026, I passed my multiengine instrument rating checkride. It’s the last rating I need to be able to make a career in #aviation a reality.

I had a moment of utter disbelief when I saw this image for the first time. I’ve never felt so cool! Anyways, the photographer is @jaketeaguephoto.bsky.social. I’m pleasantly surprised to find him on Bsky.

#AOPA featured this absolutely killer shot on its IG feed: @peacewind.aero firing up in an RCAF Chipmunk warbird to leave Oshkosh. On the left, you can also see the nose and spinning propeller of the Chipmunk @astrokatie.com flew in formation with her. Aviation photography at its finest. :)

Two yellow RCAF Chipmunk warbirds preparing to leave Oshkosh. On the left, you can see the nose and spinning propeller of one; and, beyond it, the primary subject of the photo, you see a woman in the open cockpit of a second, its canopy slid back a half meter or so. She's wearing a khaki flight suit and a headset over a skullcap and is looking toward the camera; one of her sunglass lenses is reflecting the yellow of the planes, the other looks dark. Her plane's wing extends toward the camera, and the RCAF roundel and its red maple leaf are visible on the underside.

We can launch rockets into space, but my shower controls in 2026 are analog & a gamble. One tiny nudge right means hypothermia. One tiny nudge left results in a sunburn. How do we not have temperature gauges or at the very least some sort of useful markings engraved into the thing?

@astrokatie.com & I have successfully flown both of the Canadian Aviation Museum Chipmunks into #Oshkosh! It was HOT & we had to divert around a whole bunch of Chicago weather, but it was SO much fun! If you’re here, our planes (& possibly us) will be at the IAC pavilion until Thursday. Come say hi!

So… the team I would typically cheer for (Portugal) is now eliminated, but so is my own country of Canada. I’m kind of thinking I should ask to be adopted by Vikings. Thoughts?

My dad sent me a message from YYZ this morning that he was getting on a plane to Houston. He bought the ticket last night. He claims it’s for business, but magically, his hotel is near NRG stadium & he’s found a ticket to Canada vs. Morocco. He’s never been spontaneous. It makes me very happy.

I signed up for @gandersocial.ca to check out what a Canadian social media platform might look like. There’s some features there that @bsky.app should heavily consider. Mandatory ALT test on images, bias/fact check ratings on media links & posts labelled if they contain AI generated content.
