all these corporate entities also know it's a biggest amoeba wins situation. that's why the bubble is justified in their heads. they think one mega corporation that achieves toll booth supremacy will then be the only one that can build AGI which they think will make them the ruler of all of earth
agreed. also - not a very well fleshed out idea but somethign about the intermingling of capital, technology and social media has created an environment where it seems that the idea that the utility of a thing as its adoption scales could be anything other than linear has gone out the window.

If you've followed other mediums for any length of time the premise of "indies will save us" - that small scale promotes virtuous behavior - does feel pretty stupid to be honest. If anything, devs being hungrier, extreme resource limitation and minimal oversight is a dream environment for predators

folks are writing a lot of words about what the reputation of anime was like in america back in the 90s, but this sums it up.
I was thinking it is kinda funny my first anime was a shojo. and then, wait, a girl lent me her fav anime in 9th grade. I 1000% did not process that as anything other than a funny nice thing. in retrospect...
in the 90s, if you liked "japanimation" (nobody even fucking called it anime lol) 95% likelihood you got it on a bad VHS and people treated it basically like porn lol
