I was on a 🇩🇪 reviewing board for postdoc fellowships last week. In the past, the 🇺🇸 was always the No. 1 destination across all disciplines. This time, only 10% of applicants aimed for the US. This year the most popular destination was 🇦🇺 (Australia).

As a New College alum, I can attest to what a special place this college was for nerds and weirdos, and undoubtedly how instrumental it was in inspiring my interest in research. Things can be demolished by the self-interested so quickly, and it takes much longer to pick up the pieces and rebuild.
