I dunno, do we fuck around and declare a pledge like “I swear I will not voluntarily use generative AI tools or any media platform that uses algorithms to suggest content”? Would that get traction? Are we all too burnt out by the twenty-first century to care?

A song is not a static thing and in a perfect world a song would be different every time you hear it; recorded music is a historical anomaly and we should celebrate these cash-grabs as hastening a return to a fully live musical tradition where there’s no concept of a “definitive” version of a song.

We all know the story about Polly Harvey sending a letter to Slint inquiring about their “interested female singers write to…” note on the back of Spiderland, right? We all mourn the band that never was, right? PJ Slint would have changed the world.

One of my strongest-held opinions is that the “track listing” section should be higher on the Wikipedia page for an album.
i bring a sort of ‘i fear neither pain nor death’ energy to the pedestrian/driver interaction that drivers don’t really like
I’m sick of writing riffs based around tritones. I want to use augmented fourths, flattened fifths, I want to live! Won’t you let me live?!
Saw a bit of Yungblud with the Smashing Pumpkins at Lolla and he sounds like if Bobcat Goldthwait grew up in Yorkshire. Absolutely cursed.
Woke up with Nothing Is Safe in my head; weird thing where my brain remembers the beat at tempo but slows down the lyrics so it can actually keep up, I’m never not in total awe of Daveed Diggs.
Regret to inform that I am watching the clipping. Tiny Desk again.
Nostalgia is a malignant tumour upon the ass of Art, BUT/AND is worth indulging in sometimes.
Post your hottest music take. Mine is New Order is better than Joy Division.
we have the entire history of music at our fingertips, there is more new music released in one day than in an entire year in the 20th century, and people still listen to "vibes playlists" and fucking Jack Antonoff swill
poptimism was an op by the music industry. pop fucking sucks and if people dug even the tiniest bit deeper than charli, taylor, and whoever the latest disney-owned lab grown starlet is their lives would be a thousand times richer

Rain be dammed, this is my first mass with the cargo bike and I’m bringing a tarp to wrap by big ol’ speaker. I’ll be the one pumping out Boards of Canada and Dan Deacon.

Started a re-read of The Grapes Of Wrath. Still goes hard tbh. Interesting to see how I view its politics as mine have evolved.
Figured out a new instrumental part for a new song, accomplishing precisely one single unit of post-work weeknight productivity, enough to not feel like a slug, then the kitten immediately came and lay across my chest like an instruction to relax. Dancing lessons from god, etc.
Just wanna talk about guitar tones and comment on whatever Chirp is playing and chat with my pals and pointedly avoid talking about the horrors of the world and share pics of my cats and brag about the cool ass band I’m in and complain about AI and rank NA beers and praise Chicago, is that OK?
Then my brain is like “who you are is not what you do” and I worry that I’m not actually a person of substance, just a flesh container that gets to go around doing cool shit from time to time. And honestly that’s fine too.
If you wanna know when and where I peaked in life, it was standing in the control room of studio B at Electrical Audio in May 2024, watching Emily nail the violin solo in Jubilee, a melody I wrote, played by a real musician, in a real studio, I mean come on.
This is the nice thing about being an old poor band; the band itself doesn’t make much money but its members have slightly more stable day jobs to keep the thing afloat and throw money at the various adjacent artists and whatnot.
If you’re a young poor band and you don’t have one young poor artist friend to make the posters you’re fucked. You’re already fucked.
Everything more or less sucks except for all of my very cool friends making very cool art
CB has a great rewards program and super friendly, knowledgeable staff. Between them, Andersonville Hardware and Clark Devon Hardware there’s pretty much no need for far north siders to ever go to Home Depot or other big box hardware places.
