Ex-PM Starmer said, in response to Raise the Colours terrorising people, ‘I am supporter of flags’, ‘I’m very encouraging of flags. I think they’re patriotic and I think they’re a great symbol of our nation’ and his family had ‘got St George’s flag in our flat’ www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

Raise the Colours Oxfordshire organiser Ben Cullen head-butted a highways worker after police were called to McDonalds in Benson where highways staff were attempting to remove flags from lamp posts;
Highways staff now wear unbranded PPE, work in unbranded vehicles, wear face coverings to hide their identity, and do not travel alone for fear of attacks;
Highways staff working on streetlight maintenance, not flag removal, have been spat on and abused by RTC supporters;
Cullen and his partner Trudy Wells posted the office addresses and phone numbers of highways depots online, leading to comments suggesting “hanging council workers from those same lamp posts”;
RTC Oxfordshire fixed trackers to the vehicles used by highways staff, then used this to find out their home addresses – which have been published online, and repeated to staff with threatening messages;
Highways depots now have to remain locked at all times;
A highways contractor’s sponsorship of a children’s football club is being rethought after concerns that children could be targeted.

The campaign of harassment and intimidation Raise the Colours have undertaken against council staff, contractors, and members of the public as reported by the Clarion today is shocking if not surprising. Excellent reporting. oxfordclarion.uk/the-clarion-...

If we sold just 12 more prints, we’ll be able to have donated over £1,000 to The Sameer Project in Gaza. They’re currently in desperate need of support and have had to pause their food donations due to lack of funds. 100% of the £15 price is donated: polari.press/throw-sand/

A poster on a pale pink background reads “Throw sand in the gears of genocide” in a custom uppercase font. In the background are some Palestinian poppies in red.

Short-sighted, stupid cuts to the UKRI budget include shutting down Jodrell Bank, the icon of British astronomy. (Many other cuts too, including 20% to our brand new @vrubinobs.bsky.social). Interesting politically to shut down a major facility in...um..Manchester 🔭 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Jodrell Bank's Lovell telescope faces axe in science cuts, BBC understands

Astronomers warn it would tear the heart out of UK science, and leave a generation untrained.

I’m disappointed in the reporting from @bylinesnetwork.co.uk not featuring any representation from people Reform are clearly meaning to target; e.g. those who need Arabic, Urdu, Bengali translations. If this bill were amended to exempt languages “indigenous to the UK” it would be no less egregious.

Reform: For the "you couldn't make it up" file. “It’s discriminatory to the other indigenous languages of the UK." bylinetimes.com/2026/07/13/r...

Compare and contrast. Andy Burnham says Russia has committed war crimes in Ukraine. But when it comes to Gaza, he only says war crimes appear to have been committed, and he doesn't name by who. He also says its up to the courts to determine, not politicians.

British drama school training is the envy of the world and, as more film + TV jobs are moving to the UK, our drama schools are the backbone of a global industry. These cuts are artistic vandalism and economic stupidity.

Performing and creative arts university courses will no longer receive funding from a government teaching grant as part of “difficult decisions” about spending priorities, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has said.

Stop looking at random womens ’height and gait’ you perverted freaks! Reminder - the Labour government *insisted* that this person be appointed as chair of the EHRC against recommendations of 2 parliamentary select committees.

"I think, generally speaking, humans are incredibly effective in identifying the sex of strangers, which we do through multiple points of information, and there's not a single indicator that we use.
"For example, there's academic research showing that where you recreate 3D models of people's faces, using photographs, taking out all the things like hair that might be an indicator, there is 96 to 98 per cent accuracy in identifying sex. Just on a 3D model of a face, where you're not adding in anything else - height, gait, build, voice, all of those other things.

The chair of the EHRC, our national human rights institution, centring arguments around polling and political popularity on a human rights issue seems… Not good www.politicshome.com/news/article...

The alternative would be removing entitlements to single-sex spaces altogether, she concludes, which would be hard. "If you look at where public opinion is, all the studies - and there's been multiple polling on this area - show a very high degree of support for single-sex services, and for those to be provided on the basis of biological sex. So, I think an attempt to change the law that would remove the right to single-sex services would be extremely unpopular."

Earth’s atmosphere has officially crossed 430 ppm of CO₂ — a level scientists say humanity has never experienced before in recorded history. Researchers warn the planet may now be entering climate conditions not seen for millions of years, with rising temperatures, stronger heatwaves, melting ice.

Your regular reminder that not a single new reservoir has been built in England since privatisation. Water companies have increased our bills above the rate of inflation and made 10s of billions in profit.

I got to Kings Cross incredibly early for my train north. I’ve had long enough to stare at the Greggs sign and I strongly believe the “S” is upside down.

Shop front of Greggs in Kings Cross station, on the mezzanine level with the pink and red lit ceiling of the station in shot too.

The Greggs logo is all caps, as individually mounted letters. The letter S looks to be upside down as the lower part looks smaller than the top.

Fossil fuel giants and their billionaire backers are boiling Britain. We need action to reduce emissions - but we also need emergency safety measures too. Cool spaces in every community and a maximum working temperature. It's time for Government to step in.

Surgeon Nizam Mamode, who was recently in Gaza, says people in the UK dont realise whats still happening there Presenter: who do you blame for that? You Mamode says the evidence is overwhelming, & he references yesterdays UN report that Israel targets & kills Palestinian kids
