It's just amazing how much time and political capital Europeans invested in discussing an imaginary peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. And for what? The French and Germans and Brits won't go to war with Russia over Ukraine anyway. Use whatever resources you have to get more guns to Ukraine. And faster

The first review of my next book, "American Overthrow", on Russia's long-term programme of political subversion of the USA. It's a heartfelt one, because it's by Heidi Cuda, who has spent many years watching Russia succeed. (Link to book in first reply.) www.bettedangerous.com/p/american-o...

'AMERICAN OVERTHROW' - A Book Review

Russia watcher and author Keir Giles upcoming book, American Overthrow, is a devastating document of US destruction and what the future looks like if people continue to remain passive

It would be nice if peace were at hand. But I don't understand Graham's statement in the 1st para that Putin has "been clear in recent months" that he wants "to bring the fighting to an end." Just last week Putin was talking about Ukrainian "neo-Nazis" and how all of E Ukraine belongs to Russia. 1/3

Opinion | Trump’s Chance for Peace in Ukraine Is Real. But It Won’t Last. (Gift Article)

There’s a narrow chance for a Russia-Ukraine peace deal before things go south.

Ukraine Foreign Affairs Minister: "We have detected intensive Russian propaganda campaign across Europe using pictures from Ceuta to sow destabilisation." Far-right from EU (& US!) falls with open eyes for hybrid threats from the weaponisation of migration, even fan the flames. #unity #solidarity

OTD in 1975 USSR signed Helsinki Accords promising to respect borders & let countries join what orgs like they want. As we, the self declared successor state, have *always* followed this, you can trust over a peace deal with Ukraine now.

Time and again climate change is treated as though it were binary: we cannot prevent it, so ok, it’s there let’s embrace it. That’s entirely wrong: it is a sliding scale. We cannot prevent 1.5 degrees. But maybe 3? Or 5?

Impossible to square the circle of (1) opposition to territorial acquisition by force must be a bedrock of the global order and (2) Russia should get to conquer Ukraine, it's not Russia's fault for trying and it's wrong for anyone to help the Ukrainians work to thwart Russia's aggressive war effort.

Taking these in turn: 1. Sure. That's part of the rules-based world order. 2. Sure. That's part of the rules-based world order. 3. This feels like a snide way to say the US is fighting a proxy war through Ukraine. Coming to the aid of an invaded country isn't instigating or intensifying. 4. Sure.

"Russia's invasion becomes a 'war in Ukraine.' Moscow's neo-imperial bid for a sphere of influence, where neighbors are to be murdered until they give up sovereignty, becomes "security interests." Ukraine's refusal to be massacred morphs into an obstacle to peace," writes Andrew Chakhoyan.

When righteous calls to end the war become warmongering

Russia's war on Ukraine has yet to end because Russia keeps waging it. It is shocking, though regrettably unsurprising, that in the fifth summer since the 2022 escalation by the aggressor, and 12 yea...

People need to step back and understand what they are seeing. After a few months of war, the USA is running out of munitions and options fighting a country with no air force, no navy and a damaged infrastructure. US decline is real and self-inflicted.

Putin has given his answer to Tokayev’s statement that no one knows what this war is about - a bunch of nonsense about history that has no bearing on the legitimacy of Ukraine’s post-1991 borders. In 2003 Putin himself signed a formal treaty recognizing those borders.

1/ Vladimir Putin has strongly hinted that Russia should claim the entire eastern half of Ukraine, going far beyond the existing annexation of the Donbas and southern Ukraine. He foresees a future in which western Ukraine is also annexed by its neighbours. ⬇️

Nope. No way. Causing mass death, breaking laws, corruption, and essentially executing a big cyber attack on the US is not the sort of thing one accidentally stumbles into. “Oops, I got carried away” is a reasonable reaction when you eat extra brownies that were saved for someone else. Not for this.

Today, Viktor Orbán’s former foreign minister Péter Szijjártó stunned everyone by quitting parliament—not to join Gazprom’s board, as some expected, but to lead external relations at Chinese EV giant BYD, which he had backed with billions of forints as minister. Quite shameless.

Yet the crisis of US shipbuilding is so bad that the US Navy is ordering ships from Korean or Italian firms and US logistics depend on bases among allies Colby is typical for an elite so marinated in myths of its power that it forgot to sustain real structures it needs to survive
