1/ Kemi Badenoch says she isn't a climate denier. Let's take her at her word. Here are five findings she wrote around this week as though they don't exist. 🧵
1/ @mjflepage.bsky.social argues in @newscientist.com that more North Sea drilling doesn't matter for the #climate, because what counts is how much we burn. He's usually excellent as a climate writer and I found the piece a real let-down. A thread on why. 🧵

Our unions are pushing back against a Labour politician that may try to change a status-quo that has been deeply harmful for workers - all to protect a few jobs in fossil sectors that we cannot afford to keep running because they are literally destroying the planet
it was surprising to hear Unite's Sharon Graham criticize Ed Miliband's record as 'job destroying' climate activism. We hope she reconsiders, on a day where UK is under extreme heat warnings. The climate crisis is real, we need a Chancellor who fights it. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
The final Santa Marta outcome report just dropped, and it shows surging global momentum towards a fair phaseout of fossil fuels.
International support for a Fossil Fuel Treaty to manage a just transition is stronger than ever before. ⚡️

The Case for Banning Oil Exploration
Renaud Coulomb, France d’Agrain, & Fanny Henriet argue that a universal ban on oil exploration could generate $12.5 trillion in global welfare gains.

Europe spent years debating whether the energy transition was affordable. Spain quietly answered the question: gas now sets its electricity price in only 7% of hours. Strategic autonomy doesn’t arrive via summit communiqués. It’s built in advance — in wind farms, solar parks, and grid investment
Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy. Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.
