Deut. 5:15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt and YHVH your God freed you from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore YHVH your God has commanded you to observe the sabbath day.

A1: I think this verse might be the one that cuts both ways most intensely from the perspective of reading with the assumption that we're supposed to care about people. This verse and related sentiments have been used to hurt people so badly. And... #ParshaChat

Deut. 5:16 ¶ Honor your father and your mother, as YHVH your God has commanded you, that you may long endure, and that you may fare well, in the land that YHVH your God is assigning to you.

A2: It's interesting to me that Moses remembers this as a moment in which people really trusted him to care for them. For all that there were moments of serious conflict even to the point of violence, there were also moments of trust. #ParshaChat
