bleh. I wanted to watch a recorded conference presentation but it was made using an AI voice. I just can't. ew. no 🤮 Give me your all your filler words, your mispronunciations, awkward backtracking, and tangents. I loathe the highly polished AI outputs. This human wants to listen to humans.

This notion that the purpose of writing essays is to have an essay-shaped object to hold at the end of it is just... wild, and incredibly widely held apparently? Have these people never... written an essay?

The point isn't to produce essays, it's to teach students how to think for fuck's sake. The minute you automate that, it's over. You might as well close the course. Which they're also doing. This is an attack on learning, and everyone is just shrugging.

"meeting people where they are" means you have to accept that they sincerely believe what they believe. It does NOT mean that you have to pretend to agree with their beliefs. In fact, you must be honest when you don't. Grown ups have to deal with people who don't agree with them all of the time.

There was a moment in the 2010s when a lot of us believed this, myself included! But sousveillance really hasn’t brought about the justice we want from video evidence. If anything, we have fed training data on how best to abuse us and anesthetized the public to death rituals.

There is more value in tech than safety - I do track my kids and spouse (kids for 😬, spouse because he brings home food 🤤) and I accept the limitations and false security. But the other examples are capturing acts of brutality - not making us safer, but an advancement in documenting injustice.
