people HAVE to accept that being in fandom is cringe. it will be viewed as cringe, and that is okay. embrace it. you cannot engage with media in good faith if you're in fandom space behaving cynically as if you're superior to the media and the creative community around it

fandom has always been built on complete sincerity. online culture has become allergic to the very notion of earnestness, and it's making fandom spaces miserable. the sooner you free yourself from the shackles of shame around sincere fannishness, the more joy you'll find
