Time Bandit, IGF23 Nuovo Finalist, Part 1 out now: http://store.steampowered.com/app/1481910/ Marxist, she/her https://phoenixup.itch.io/ thinking of giving up gamedev for the dance 💃

i love hearing about spacing out Time Bandit over longer periods of time there was a great year-long longplay with inefficient puzzle solving and plenty of time dedicated to invented daily rituals like dancing to the music in the forest - sadly i can't find the videos bsky.app/profile/faew...

My friend and I played this game once a week for maybe two years. Super interesting how real time limits change the way you engage with sokoban puzzles and change the way you think!

incredible, massively underrated game combining realtime animal-crossing type features with puzzle game design in a way that means your choices have realtime impacts in a way no other game does. Your shift is over today- do you sneak in and risk getting shot? Do you take ease now for agony later?

stealth gameplay

some life/project updates: after a long period of dealing with chronic illness from long covid, i've finally found a medley of drugs that seem to have dramatically improved things (fingers crossed) i have high hopes now of being able to work on 2 projects, in addition to time bandit pt 2:

And because v, variable capital, is the only part of the capital that can actually generate new value (from living labour), this means that larger and larger investments are needed to keep making the same profit. Markets get oversaturared, budgets inflate, workers get squeezed worse and worse

And yet, the *rate of profit* is lower than ever! Because p'=s/(v+c) , surplus value divided by the sum of variable capital (labour costs) and constant capital (all other investment). As capitalists keep needing to reinvest profits and keep capital circulating & growing, c grows faster than v!

A lot of people (accurately) point out that premium video games are cheaper today than they were 30 years ago thanks to inflation, but discussed less often is how much bigger the margins are for game companies now that sales are 80-90% (soon to be 100%) digital. No more retail or packaging costs!

"If I think about this a little more before taking action, maybe I can save myself hours of real time", or "this could be a huge benefit in the short term and then I might regret it over the next month" are not normally feelings a puzzle game evokes, and yet time bandit is all about That

if you haven't played this, please play it for me. then we can talk about it and say things like "woah that was a really cool game, what did you think?" and "i really liked the immaculate vibes, did u enjoy the apartment as well?"
