The worst part of being am adult is having to engage with other adults who are victims of both the literacy crisis and algorithms.
one time i said "anyone can write a book if they just sit down and put the work in" and people started screaming at me about ableism
I posted a character design tip on twxtter last year, and several ppl replied “stop telling me how to draw!” 🙃
Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences
I had replied to the below: Paper maps are great. Never run out of juice, let you see the close-up detail and the big picture at the same time (because they're three feet wide, unlike your phone), and the more you use them the more you learn your way around without them, unlike obeying a machine.
Can’t lie, the fact that y’all were driving with PAPER maps is insane. Even worse, you had to ask random strangers for directions??
also psa for all musicians.... stop using fucking ai generated thumbnails for your real actual human made music!!!!!! i don't care how good your songs are that shit is making me actively block your channels for stuff i would otherwise really be into
Honestly nice to to see I'm not the only one contending with this
I have metastasized breast cancer that resulted in two brain tumors, since removed. I've lost vision and get chronic migraines. All my books are written solely by me, with 10 fingers and 85% of a brain. No AI needed. The answer to disability isn't AI, it's community.
I’m tired, boss. These people suck.
I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?
I get so mad when I see older films get the life sucked out of them for the sake of making them seem more modern. I WANT the rougher texture and the original artistic intent! It's PART of it! Also, this is subjective but: why do so many attempts to modernize something make it look like shit?
Perfect example why 4K is the first format that isn't automatically an 'upgrade'. There's way too much of this awful shit going on. Shadows are not flaws. Color is by design. The goal isn't to 'fix' darkness. The Terminator: 35mm (top) 4K scan (bottom) Image courtesy: BobbyCastro1994
Man, this is such a nihilistic take. Forget Lord of the Rings. My kids have watched The Wizard of Oz. The Godfather. Planet of the Apes. TONS of classics that are quite a bit older than 30 years, and they’ve enjoyed and appreciated them all.
Capitalism lives in the eternal "now". It doesn't want you to know about history, it doesn't want you to know art has existed for tens of thousands of years, it wants you slavering for whatever's coming NEXT, whatever's HOT and NEW, and ignoring everything else. You do not have to do this.
TFA: Boring and much less interesting retread of A NEW HOPE TLJ: Deeply flawed, ultimately a mess, but intermittently exciting and beautiful TRoS: Insulting, creatively bankrupt garbage Overall, I do not like them and have never experienced a desire to rewatch them. bsky.app/profile/allt...
what did you think of the star wars sequels
It's like eating food flavoring instead of food.
The therapy-style didacticism around emotion that's become common in fiction lately really does bother me, just as a pure reader. What's the fun in thinking about a character if the author tells you exactly, note for note, what's going on with them

okay but they did all that and the "shoplifting epidemic" wasn't and still is not real. this is a nothing argument because it's not actually happening
feel like the thing missing in Shoplifting Discourse is that if you leave aside the morality of stealing from a big corporation, widespread shoplifting forces retailers to take onerous and annoying steps to combat it which causes harm and deadweight loss to all the other store patrons.
me when I am very busy working. don't you understand that i'm WORKING? I don't even want to be here, on the red carpet
There is a direct throughline from this and the rise in global authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is actively hostile toward the arts and intellectualism, and thus imagination. When people say that AI is a “fascist project,” this is explicitly what they’re referring to.
Something we don’t address enough is how many people, especially adults, do not have a working imagination.

You’re about to feel the AI money squeeze
i've worked at several doctors offices and unfortunately policy has to be annoying as fuck because otherwise people will move, change their phone number, and get several major surgeries, and then tell you to your face that nothing has changed since their last visit
