Still working on melee combat, but thanks to some tips from Naughty Dog, it's coming along 🎮🛠️ #gamedev #indiegamedev

Solo indie dev behind Outer Reach 🎮🛠️ A stealth-action adventure through covert wars, buried secrets, and the shadows between the stars. Wishlist: https://store.epicgames.com/p/outer-reach-001afd
Started on melee combat coding today. Trying to get the balance feel in the mechanic somewhere between Last of Us & Uncharted 4. I think the tough part is going to be the head-to-wall and head-to-desk smashes. 🤔 #indiegamedev #gamedev
A huge thanks to everyone including all the new followers! Now have 4,600 on the Epic Store Wishlist for Outer Reach. Steam coming soon, still working on that store page 😅 🎮🛠️ #indiegame #gamedev
A devs work is seemingly never done... working on stealthy ledge takedowns over the weekend. 🎮🛠️ #screenshotsaturday #indiegame #gamedev
Unity Gamedev horrors: - Doors - Ladders - Active ragdolls - Save states - Motion matching - Retargeting avatar mismatches - Shadow performance - Baked GI artifacts - Navmesh agents getting stuck on corners - Anything to do with Timeline - 10k project settings - Asset bundle addressables
Me to my game devs: You need to rest. You need to have downtime and work-life balance. You need to set boundaries for yourself and be a human outside work. My brain: Not you, though. Me: Oh, God, of course not me. Haha. Can you imagine?
Don't listen to them. #gamedev #MondayMotivation "You can't make that alone." "Indie games means it looks like sh*t" "Unity isn't made for games like that" "Making a game is too hard." "Just get a normal job." "Leaving Twitter with 40k followers for 500 on Bluesky was dumb." "Give up."
Sometimes I look through the code of my game and go holy crap I was smart for a minute there. How did I figure THAT out? Other times uh, yeah, not so much.
Ok that trailer is incredibly charming and you should check it out.
A Japanese indie developer is making an exploration hidden object game about chasing after and searching for a bulldog, with the hand drawn ballpoint pen art certainly standing out. It's titled Finding Polka
I like this idea too. I would love to drop a finished game and be done with it. But also I have so much more I want to add that won't make it in the base game that I could add as dlc. Also it's a card game so it will be really easy to build upon after the core of the game is there.
Fan of the idea of game devs releasing a game and then being done with it. Esp true for indies; if you do not want to be shackled to a project indefinitely, you should be given the grace to say "This was fun, I'm gonna do something else" and then leaving your game to vibe on the store or whatever.
People like to pretend in indie game dev that some areas of the project are more creative than others, but EVERY area requires creativity. Obviously art/writing/music are creative, but so is coding. Marketing has to be creative, and so does community management. You have to be creative everywhere.
One of the biggest indie game dev problems I have is when I am debugging and see a wonky looking interaction and stop the game to look into what happened. And then it turns out the game did it correctly and my interpretation of the game logic was just wrong. Or I forgot something and it didn't.
This whole concept in LOTR is one of my favourite parts of the whole book. “Evil fucks up because evil people fundamentally cannot imagine that others are not motivated by the same things as them” is another theme that feels relevant right now
Everyone once in a while some younger person will be like “Does anyone remember game X?” like it was some obscure back catalogue title, and it will be a formative, genre defining hit that people my age spent hundreds of hours playing
Folks looking for Game Dev Jobs, we've got some new opportunities! The WoW team and several others at Blizzard have unionized and are working on our first contracts - join us in making awesome games and better working conditions! 🧵 #GameDevJobs #GameDev
I see a lot of indie game devs talking about how much they enjoy playing their own game and like, I'm jealous. All I can think of is every little tiny thing that I could fix or improve or need to work on. Maybe it's just because I'm not done yet, but I can't see myself playing for enjoyment much.
Kiwicoder's series on NPCs is great, but mesh socket rigging was horrible. Creates static issues w/ spine rot., weapon alignment, raycasting & hand pos. I did it years ago & had to rip it out from 70+ state machine agents. Use FinalIK/AimIK instead. #unity #gamedev www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c-r...

I like when I share someone on here and then suddenly they get noticed by people following me. Takes very little to help others and you can all do it by just hitting share on posts you actually like.
No dev or artist gets a chance to be seen or show what they have been working on without others sharing posts. It makes a difference and can lead to them finding work, selling prints and getting wish listed for games and it’s not much but it’s better then doing nothing and dose support them.

Dear gamedevs: Don't know who among you need to hear this today, but it still comes up in various discords, subreddits, even here. So allow me this space to once again reiterate: No, it's not "cheating" to use assets you paid for. They exist to be used. Use them.
Not at #GDC but I’m #WhatAGameDevLooksLike Writer, editor, Narrative Designer and DEI Consultant for 10+ years. A very hireable one, still seeking work a year after Monolith’s closure. ✌🏾
