'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but documenting and commenting your code regarding how it works is a vital skill and discipline that I highly encourage you practice often. Especially if you find yourself infrequently working on it. Also you're someone's reason for not feeling alone.

Time for another reference dump! This zip file contains 2,566 photos (6.58 GB) from the Metropolitan Museum of Art arms and armor collection. I tried to focus on the types of details you don't see in most available reference, like hinges and fasteners. Enjoy! drive.google.com/file/d/1emF3...

A shot of an eggplant-shaped samurai helmet sitting on a wooden stand in a museum display case. It's made of darkened metal and has gold trim and accents.A closeup shot of some buttons, fasteners, and ties on a small section of a samurai armor set's front chest plate. There are various ornate patterns, complex knots, and overlapping pieces.A closeup shot of the thumb and forefinger of a European steel gauntlet inlaid with gold. It has bronze rivets and a white leather glove under the overlapping finger armor pieces.A closeup shot of an extremely ornate double barreled shotgun's firing mechanism and trigger. The hammers are shaped like squirrels holding nuts and there is floral filigree everywhere.

Here are 543 images (1.5GB) of items at the Philadelphia Museum of Art arms and armor exhibit You're free to use them for anything, even commercially. I tried to focus on details not usually represented in available reference material drive.google.com/file/d/1NRzg... Here's a small sampling:

A closeup view of an ornate cuirass and tasset, showing heart-shaped designs along the edges of the metal panels. An extremely ornate ceremonial halberd head showing etched and blackened designs with various plants, mythical creatures, and heraldic designs.A closeup of the shoulder intersection of the cuirass, pauldron, and bevor of a piece of 1500s field armor. Some ornate etching of the crucifixion is visible in the lower right corner on the cuirass.

If you've ever seen these photos online, you may be interested to know I took them about 15 years ago You may also be interested to know that I did a 3D scan of this exact same Asaro Planes of the Head model, and you can get that scan here for zero moneys: drive.google.com/file/d/1_W-2...

Several images of a John Asaro Planes of the Head model from the 1970s. It sits on an off-white background under soft natural light.

"It's just for fun not like I pretend to draw historically correct armor" "But it need to make sense tho" "But that helmet is fun but I wanna draw it but not the rest of the armor" "That's not logicaaaaal" Rinse & repeat in circle until the armor drawing is done

« Qrt most popular piece on Bluesky » how do you even remind of that ? I have no idea everything older than 2 months is a blur to me

IMPACT: that company that was offering to buy books for AI companies’ training data — and probably destroy them in the process — says it will no longer offer this service following 404 Media’s exposure of it www.404media.co/ai-company-t...

Company Offering Printed Books to Train AI Stops After 404 Media Coverage

Citing backlash, ISBNdb removed its webpages about training AI, denied ever buying, scanning, or selling a book for AI training, and said the site was a "test of market interest."

Not to soap box about this but i feel that ppl in the english indie comics space should hear it: creating doujinshi/self published comics without the stamp of a prestigious fair or an indie publisher does not make you any less of a comic artist. drawing comics makes you a comic artist.

sometimes I think about how alan moore said writing is magic and about how rich illiterates realised that and destroyed journalism and forced through genAI and all us silly little sorceresses are like well. we can still live on the edge of the village and cast a glamour in rags
