The publishing industry views Bluesky as some tiny unimportant island out somewhere in a far-off ocean. It's not worthy of their attention like Amazon Algoland or The Republic Of Instagram Influencer Collaborativepost is. What they don't realise is just how much the island's inhabitants love books.

Read this. The prose is a brain tickling delight, the setting gently magical, the story wonderous, the characters so very human, and the ending heartbreaking in that way that warms you. First book of Toms (@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social) that I've read, but it won't be the last.

I bought a Begonia xanthini tuber at the Harrogate Flower Show nearly two years ago, I planted it but it has never done anything other than a few shoots which rapidly died off. I’ve increased the humidity with a kitchen bowl, and now have some real leaves. Exciting times 😀

A Brief Guide To My Books

Villager is where I'd advise you to start if you wanted to read one of my novels. It's also the one people most frequently tell me they reread. It's set on a fictional moor which just happens to be in...

Get in! Fruitful commuting no than scrolling. The last and most recent @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social paperback 'Everything will swallow you' just arrived to complete a birthday literary splurge. Well done @blackwellbooks for free p&p. Anticipating annoying fellow pax with involuntary sounds. Good!

Stack of paperback books by author Tom Cox in descending order - Everything will swallow you, Help the witch, Notebook, The Good, the Bad & the Furry, 21st Century Yokel, 1983 and Villager. Bought from Blackwell’s Bookshop online with free p&p - I’m going to be busy now!

Too hot to be outside, so finishing off the parquet floor in what will be my library, was planned as a work-from-home office, but didn’t get done before I retired; work got in the way! This is the last (4th) parquet floor, but now I have the hang of it, I can see a future renovation project ahead 😃

For those who want to know what the Yorkshire Wolds look like, here they are. Nothing like the traffic & crowds of Leeds. Two very different places that each have their own attractions all of which I love.

Thornton’s Arcade, Leeds. A photo taken today, but evoking memories that take me back 58 years to when, as a four year old, I remember waiting for the hour to change & the characters to start to move. Incredible how such vivid memories persist amongst all the subsequent experiences & their memories.

The Corn Exchange Leeds today. A great afternoon revisiting old haunts. Bought some plants from the same stall I knew as a student in the early ‘80s, & had a pint of Timothy Taylor’s in Whitelocks, a pub I frequented as a student, & again 20y later, & somewhere my Dad, in his youth, enjoyed a pint.

Just finished reading mine today(purchased at a lefty, indy bookstore, run by our friends Ruth and Tom) and I can say, without qualification, 'Everything Will Swallow You' is one of the best books I've ever read. N.B. I've never met, worked with, or for the author. It's just a very special book.
