I found out this morning that my mom passed away. We didn't have the best relationship and it's really eating at me. Despite everything, I loved my mom. She was my only parent growing up, and she did the very best she could for me. It's going to be really hard moving forward in life without her.

it's going to be fucking surreal when xbox tries to get people excited to buy $1200 closed system pc, that charges you to play online, and with no games on it that you couldn't just play on steam

I think the *real* question is how does this hobby of ours reach and inspire a new generation of people when PCs keep going up in price and the accessibility of a console is now out of reach? The class imbalance in gaming is egregious and its getting worse.

The real question now is, if consoles are just going to be walled garden PCs with inferior hardware and no disc drive, why would you ever buy one? Games run worse and cost more on consoles. Backwards compatibility is iffy. No mods. You pay the manufacturer to use your own internet. So... why?

All I have to say is I have mad respect for anyone chasing their dreams in the games industry right now. Yes, things are rough, but understanding the challenges and persisting anyway is badass. Don't let anyone tell you "don't" if this is what you really want. Keep going.

Right now the world is full of people who want to code and write and paint and film stuff and people who want to play and read and look at and watch stuff and nobody is allowed to do any of that because some unrelated third guy isn't making enough money off the deal

Our games industry is people. Our studios are people. Our teams people, our games by people for people. Our games are made by people, in groups of people, in teams of people, making people things for people. The magic is people, and the people deserve so much better than all this. I am so sorry.

You know what Nintendo does when they have a surplus set of devs from cancellations or production ending? Put them on other projects. The ability to redeploy headcount while keeping teams together over time is like, the main strategic benefit of scale in the game industry

Spare us the corpo speak and actually address the people you've just laid off during one of the worst job markets the industry has ever seen. Maybe also consider apologizing and explaining the steps you're taking to prevent this from happening again.
