MLB is like the Democratic Party in that they’re deeply concerned about popularity and all their actions seem to be aimed at capturing some mythical person who has never become a baseball fan and will probably never become a baseball fan meanwhile baseball fans are yelling PLEASE JUST PLAY BASEBALL

Having a British soccer broadcaster do a game with a bunch of Spanish names in it is like asking a vegan to run a steakhouse. How is it that British people seem completely incapable of pronouncing Spanish words?

People who didn't vote in the last election because they thought their vote wouldn't matter and because they don't like politics are not people you can incentivize to vote in any kind of predictable way imo.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

We're either seeing the end of America, or we're seeing the last dying breaths of white supremacy before the next generation rebuilds America better. I really want to believe it's the latter, but it's probably the former and America is just going to become another Russia, ruled by oligarchs.

The authoritarian takover of the state bureaucracy might not *sound* like a big deal. But SCOTUS giving Trump the ability to fire the federal government is a God-King power, and represents a failure of the American Revolution. My latest in @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/poli...

It doesn't actually matter if Chuck Schumer votes for this or not. If he can't keep his caucus unified to protect healthcare for over 10 million Americans, he should resign as leader.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

last night as i was trying to wind down for bed i had a unified theory of what the fuck just happened, and i wrote it down, and filed it under "well, i can't talk about this on main without sounding insane until and unless the perp gets caught and is provably a groyper" anyways, great news! (1/X)

The American constitution is mostly the story of an aspiring democracy trying to be as free as it can get away with without the South rising up and murdering everyone. The notable exceptions are the Reconstruction Amendments, which stemmed from President Lincoln saying “You know what? Bet.”

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com The Constitution “was not some kind of sacred compromise that came down a mountain on tablets,” and we should consider ourselves empowered to make dramatic changes to our political system, Osita Nwanevu says on this episode of “Interesting Times With Ross Douthat.”
