Smoke has arrived in Seattle, but the other side of the Cascades is absolutely brutal. Wenatchee and other towns (e.g., Plain, Entiat) have been over 1,000 AQI today. Please use air purifiers, N95 masks, and avoid being outdoors if you’re able - there is no safe level of wildfire smoke exposure.

honestly can't stress enough, as a former family law attorney, how depressingly common Max Miller's behavior and words are, right down to the petty fixation on custody procedure and rules when faced with allegations of shocking violence.

Rep. Max Miller: "When I was reported for child abuse of my daughter for a broken collarbone, my daughter was in my ex-wife's care 9 out of the last 11 days and she took her to the emergency room, which is a contempt violation from our shared parenting plan."

Haven’t read the book, but this summary interview confirms our model: give up the future, deal with grief, find community, and live for simple daily joys. We tend to think that climate changes will overwhelm our adaptations, ultimately, but this approach will do, for now.

He's losing words. Anyone with a parent or loved one suffering from dementia will recognize this pattern. Wen he says "moving cameras," it's because he can't recall the word "videos" and so he's stating the component parts as best he can. E.g., a "camera" is involved and the images are "moving"

Urban firestorms like the one that devastated Spokane Saturday have been growing more common because of increased development in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and climate change. In this post, I document 9 such fires since 2016 in the U.S. yaleclimateconnections.org/2026/08/urba...

Climate change, combined with development in high-risk areas, is making urban wildfires more likely.

That wall of smoke is headed west. It will cover Seattle and much of the coastal Pacific Northwest for three days while temperatures rise into the 90s. It means suffering for those without A/C, air purifiers, masks, or housing. This is our first climate disaster of the year. Will it be the last?
