The "my competitor will see my preprint and replicate/rush their story to a journal" = their competitor has to have already done at least the rate-limiting parts of the work. To me, this is about someone wanting to receive exclusive credit for work that other groups were doing simultaneously.

After working closely together across two open science orgs over the last 7+ years, I’ll really miss working with @jessicapolka.bsky.social. She’s a total pro, an exceptional operator, a sharp strategist, and just a fantastic human ❤️. Really excited to see all she does next!

I’m excited to share that I’m embarking on a new chapter: after 9 years working in open science nonprofits, including most recently at @asterainstitute.bsky.social , I’m transitioning to a new effort in the open education space - more on that soon!

1/ 📢 New blog post! @pracheeac.bsky.social recently wrote a great piece about the need for paradigm shifts in science communication: “Stop building faster horses when we need fundamentally different vehicles.” 🧵https://bsky.app/profile/pracheeac.bsky.social/post/3m2exwtn6o22i

We just posted an impact story on policies at HHMI, Gates & Astera promoting #OpenAccess #OpenScience #OpenData. Powerful signals to other funders to accelerate discovery in science. Well done @madubs.bsky.social @openaccessmaven.bsky.social @pracheeac.bsky.social! sparcopen.org/impact-story...

While journal publishing has always been deeply problematic, hurting both the pace and trajectory of science, something is happening in this moment that is finally causing the system to crumble under its own weight and cost. 1/

Why hasn't Preprint Peer Review caught on more? I discovered a small, but simple reason - authors are missing out on the JOY of getting feedback because they aren't notified when feedback occurs. more in thread below!
