Correction: I’ve been told that I made a mistake regarding the number of games you can choose. You are limited to your top 5 games in addition to Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Goemon's Great Adventure (MNSG2), Quest 64, Wave Race 64, and Rocket: Robot on Wheels. Apologies for the oversight. 🙇‍♂️

And, yes, I celebrate the anniversary of the series on August 1, which was probably the official release date of Karakuri Dōchū. Like many release dates in the era, though, there is a certain looseness about the date, and somehow July 30 became the official date, even within Konami.

Although the release date of the game is usually presented as July 30, 1986, the postcard makes it clear that the official release date of the game was actually August 1, 1986. Various health, family, and financial problems recently have kept me away from the series. I have only taken little more than a cursory look at Daishūgō. I plan to make August all about Goemon, however—if only to see if I can recreate a similar experience to someone discovering Goemon in 1986.

I wonder if there is a connection between the popularity of certain Goemon titles and summer. Karakuri Dōchū (FC), Yukihime Kyūshutsu Emaki (LOTMN) (SFC), and Neo-Momoyama Bakufu no Odori (MNSG) (N64) all feel like summer adventures. Yukihime in particular is the most summer-like of all.

#todayinGoemonhistory The fourth game in the Ganbare Goemon series, Ganbare Goemon~Yukihime Kyūshutsu Emaki~, was released in Japan on this day, July 19, 1991. It's significant for being the first Goemon game to be released outside of Japan, as The Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
