Kudos to @news10.bsky.social for providing substantive coverage of @cplusc.bsky.social's + @publicgrids.org's report and giving it more reach. The report is called "Overcharged: The Rules of the Electricity Affordability Crisis." You can download it here: climateandcommunity.org/research/ove...

The citywide outage is San Francisco is going to be the straw that broke PG&E's stranglehold on California politics. Here's my state Senator calling for public ownership- not just for San Francisco but all of PG&E statewide. The future is public and that's what @publicgrids.org is for.

Senator Scott Wiener@scottwiener.bsky.social · 8mo ago

20,000 SF customers still lack power due to PG&E’s meltdown. The private utility model is broken. PG&E is a monopoly fighting to stay a monopoly & not paid based on its performance. It’s why I authored legislation to make PG&E publicly owned. Utilities must serve the public, not shareholders.🧵

Our latest update! We are on the move, growing the team at Public Grids, getting ready for our next national summit, and building international relationships in the labor movement. Please share & subscribe to join our movement for public power and electricity for all!

The looming tariffs on electricity will spike people's bills almost instantly. That's a disaster. But as we told @newrepublic.com, “we already pay a tariff because of how much corporate profit is priced in, compared to what the price would be under public power.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is about to speak to the media about his plans, possibly including whether or not he will follow through on his threat to cut off Canadian electricity exports to the U.S. You can follow along here: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Fans of public power in the DMV should be sure to add this to their calendars! It's time to reimagine why we have utility corporations in the U.S. and what purpose they serve. Sandeep Vaheesan's new book is a must-read for innovative activists, union rank and file, and public workers alike.
