An interesting piece out from @democratictheory.bsky.social. One of the things Mamdani’s campaign & admin does that is replicable & good for democracy beyond policy is to broaden opportunities for civic connection & tell increasingly layered stories of peoplehood w/ “the people” being New Yorkers.

Public power could win here but the neoliberal city officials blocked it. I think as they keep trying they will win.

Pay any attention at all. Yes, the 60-second ads will lack the nuance of a white paper. Industry ignores your white papers though.

Reading this and can't help but think about how communities of all kinds come together in the immediate wake of disasters, politics aside. And how I've been racially slurred the hardest by a good ol' southern boy who nicely helped me pull my car out of a ditch after a storm. The future is unwritten.

It will depress you! Sorry about that but it’s kind of my jam. I selected well-written books, some of them are even wryly funny at times — if you come from a culture with macabre humor. Still, the issue is big, complex, and scary. All the more reason for us to face it together.

I know times are tough but I think if you make significant income from posting videos you can and should pay humans to edit your work. I think this is some bare minimum solidarity human content creators can have with other human creatives.
Gonna need public power and universal electricity service to make it through the climate instability era :)

Yesterday he was flying one of the many other fires in Eastern Washington (probably the Modrite Complex on the Columbia).
