In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

No one's ever been chased off this site who didn't want to be. The nuclear block is GREAT for this. The "problem" is that some people want a social network that allows them to inflict psychic damage on other members. That's it. That's why they've never taken to Bluesky.

The oddest thing about the response to this essay is people who say it’s “personal”. You can disagree about some or all of it! I may well be wrong! But it’s not “personal” to analyze a film or other work of art, even negatively. Criticism is more than “Hurray!” or “Hiss!”

On this day in 1814, the Battle of Lundy's Lane was fought in Niagara Falls. One of the bloodiest battles of the war, it saw 1,720 casualties, including 258 killed. British-Canadian force fought the Americans to a stalemate, although the Americans withdrew. 🎨 Alonzo Chappel
