such an unnerving episode of ghost in the shell last week. really enjoyed it.

NEW FROM ME: A frenzy of cruel and unusual ICE flights over the last few days suggests the Trump admin is ratcheting up its ethnic cleansing campaign. And it may be increasingly desperate to find willing collaborators. My breakdown: gillianbrockell.com/frenzy-of-cr...
Frenzy of cruel and unusual ICE flights shows Trump’s ethnic cleansing campaign is escalating – again
Seven apparent ICE removal flights in the last few days – including third-country removals, prolonged shackling, and failed deportations – reveal an agency ratcheting up.

This coming a few months after K-On also being added suggests that the Criterion people making these decisions have the exact same taste as me
Hideaki Anno’s iconic anime masterpiece Neon Genesis Evangelion is officially coming to the Criterion Channel this September. https://bit.ly/3TuAlnB
the thing about that fight is it never worked and always annoyed the film guys because tomino is ultimately a novelist working in animation and anno is ripping off shots directly from alphaville. i think tomino has created beautiful images but there's a reason eva is the crossover for cinema guys
it should be easier to buy the Major's jacket from Ghost in the Shell (1995), there should just be a store that sells it 24/7 but only for me
must a show be worthy... can't it simply have catgirls who are simultaneously a good and awful hang.
in Chainsmoker Cat, some characters will be like "hey i'm ketamine cat and i like k-holes and im always setting my house on fire." then the next character will be like "i'm book cat and im writing a novel." this will be presented as equally shameful. anime of the season.
oh. well that's one way to make me interested in blade runner
First look at BLADE RUNNER 2099. Hunter Schafer & Michelle Yeoh star. A brand new television series. Set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, in a world where replicants have emerged on top after an uprising. Coming soon to Prime Video.
i would welcome fewer gundam tv shows. one of the reasons i think G-Witch struck a chord and brought in new people, is that it felt like an interesting reflection on what a 2020s Gundam could be. for that, you have to allow the zeitgiest to shift a bit. you can't just keep pumping them out.
gundam zero will, importantly, cause me to reflect and become softer on gquuux. remember how it's opening trailer situated us in our protagonist's POV and her sense of ennui of living in an endless suburb...
i think, unironically, sincerely, this new gundam was made for reddit.
Excited for this as a moderate Witch From Mercury defender
Happy 52nd day of Pride Month. To celebrate, I made a video essay about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury in the hopes that I can get other people to share my hyperfixation. It'll be up on Youtube later this week but you can watch it on Nebula right now. nebula.tv/videos/ladye...
new ghost in the shell is so fun. love that we get to hang out in this cyberpunk world, rather than solely be in awe of it.
Probably gonna self-publish Exosuit Girls in August or September. Gonna release it only itch and my Patreon though, largely so it doesn't interfere with the other book I wrote that me and agent are going on sub with next month.
It sounds like Dunbine discourse is happening today, and while I don’t care/want to know what that’s about, it IS a good opportunity to bring up my Byston Well-centric patreon, where you can experience Tomino’s take on adventure fiction for yourself

science fiction is at its best when it is extremely crunchy about both technology (machines, cells, social forms) and emotions (haunting character drama, women can do anything)
sci fi writers be like: nooo dude you dont get it this setting is really cool actually because i meticulously spent years researching everything to ensure my spaceships follow all relevant physical laws and properties of spaceflight and are feasible fantasy writers: what if a dragon fucked your mom
gave ghost in the shell a rewatch. my relationship to this movie has always been a little mixed, i find the characters a little too stoic at times. this time, though, i was able to appreciate its ambience and its masterpiece designwork.
Chainsmoker Cat is the most a girls hanging out anime has felt like The Ring tape. Primetime Emmy now
lotta good shows this season, but it's crazy how much chainsmoker cat is *the* show i've wanted for years. it's the style and rhythms of a moe slice of life, but without being aspirational. deadbeat girls doing cute things.
reminder that Heaven Will Be Mine is my favourite piece of mecha media of the 2010s, with some of the best character art in the genre
