Genuinely I’d recommend Grant’s memoirs if that’s your sort of thing. It’s a really good read. And he didn’t write in the overly flowery way that a lot of the writers from his era wrote in. It struck me as rather modern, honestly.

That fact just pops into my head from time to time whenever I’m thinking about Presidential history. I just can’t imagine the willpower it took to finish something so daunting so quickly (and do it so well) while actually dying and fearing for your family’s future.
Then former President Ulysses S Grant writing his memoirs while suffering with agonising and terminal throat cancer. Willing himself to stay alive so that he can finish the work and save his family from financial ruin because he’d been scammed out of his savings. He died days after finishing it.
🚨 NEW: Labour, Green and Lib Dem London councils say they will resist implementing the new EHRC rules on single-sex spaces "Trans women are women, trans men are men. We won’t put our staff in the impossible position of policing entry to public spaces"
Lib-Dems are the most group most opposed to the idea of a Nazi being allowed any form of political power? We are literally based. C’mon now.
Reform UK voters are the most likely to say it was acceptable for the Tories to select reformed neo-Nazi Joshua Bonehill-Paine as a council candidate Reform: 36% acceptable / 44% unacceptable Con: 28% / 57% Green: 23% / 62% Lab: 20% / 62% LD: 19% / 70% yougov.com/en-gb/daily-...
I mean. It would have a big impact in the sense that we’d be reviving the ancient tradition of endless war with the French.
If the Royal Navy were tasked with reducing small boat crossings, how much impact do Britons expect that would have? Major reduction: 23% Moderate reduction: 23% Minor reduction: 18% No meaningful reduction: 20% yougov.com/en-gb/daily-...

I like the idea of this in theory, but how in the hell would you actually do it? Calculating accurate costs, deciding who and what you’d charge, overcoming the almost guaranteed legal challenges you’d face as a response. You’d end up costing the public more money than you’d be saving.
🚨 NEW: Zack Polanski has called for Andy Burnham to make fossil fuel companies pay for the cost of wildfires
Honestly? At this point? Given how rough George RR Martin’s latest blog was? I hope he doesn’t finish the series. He’s an old man who’s clearly got some stuff going on in his life. I think after creating a setting that has become so big and will last forever, it’s time for the guy to just rest.
Life might be hard. But look at it this way. At least you aren’t the Captain of an Oberth-Class ship.
I kind of like the idea of a modern city as the basis for an RP server. It’s just a blank slate for some OCs to forge the history of the entire place. Thoughts?
The best President was Washington. But the most interesting ones are Ulysses S Grant and Franklin Roosevelt.
I’m going to word this in a way where I hope it won’t spoil things in the movie but those who’ve seen it will get it. My favourite aspect of the storyline in the new Spider Man flick was the entire sub-plot regarding the vent. It was a subverting of expectations in the most intensely tragic way.
From pensioners left bedbound to life savings being spent on dementia care, our system better resembles the 1920s than the 2020s. Andy Burnham must work with local government and the NHS to finally end the social care crisis.
Could be a fun thought experiment. ❤️ — For a law I’d like to see happen.
I’m almost at a point where I kind of subscribe to some sort of law restricting elderly people’s votes. I understand (to an extent) the argument that people under the age of eighteen might not be mature enough or they haven’t figured out their own belief systems yet. But if we are restricting -
The hiatus from yesterday is probably going to continue for today. I feel exhausted and Mrs Queek needs some extra love today so yeaaaah. Currently mentally toying with the idea of purging a dead account and trying my hand at Michael from GTA. We’ll see.
We have been saying for many years that the only way to fix care is by all of the main parties agreeing on the same plan. We have a responsibility to work together and a real opportunity to fix it.
I finished the GTA V campaign. And I’m gunna play through it again. Do everything (that I can) differently. It’s just such a good game man. The nostalgia is real.
I feel genuine pain saying this. But if Reform ever takeover Parliament and deploy the Royal Navy as a ridiculous and brutal means to stop migrants, then I sincerely hope… Gimme a second. Gotta work up to saying this. Then I sincerely hope that the French Navy whoops our ass.
If I ever wrote a Spider Man, I feel like my best portrayal would be ya boi.

I’d love to know what the man who built the US and the man who saved it would think of the guy whose wrecking it.

I doubt I’ll be overly active today. I’m feeling pretty sicky so imma just chill. If I feel better in the evening then maybe I’ll come fuck around for a little bit.
